For the millionth time that we've explained it to you. First off, with Steven Spielberg a while back (even before the Amblin returning to Universal Pictures thing came up); the contract of Steven Spielbergs involvement in Universal Creatives endeavors have been extended for another period of time.

From what I gather in the original first page, its that Steven would pull back his contract with Universal's theme park division, Universal Creative if the last version of ET goes away. Now, its unclear if anything has changed in the contract, but I have to assume that its still the same as it was the last contracted period of time.

Also, as much as people will crap on me for this, E.T. Adventure is the true "Last original USF attraction", even more than Horror Make-up and that's saying something; as Universal Creative multiple times in the past ripped out some of the most famous original USF attractions much like Kongfromtation for ROTM, Back to the Future with Simpsons, and the one that still has major debates on other communities, Amity and Diagon.

I will say this, it is absolute crap as it is, but I have a feeling that within the next two to three years, we will probably see a major overhaul of ET to change some..more bigger things, much like the Preshow (which honestly, that can go away; and I love Steve); adding some new changes to the ride, much like Projection mapping for the Green Planet, and major changes to the AAs on the Green Planet.

Atleast, I expect ET to last for a long time, even with a really mediocre attraction for now.

Nintendo.

But, as I stated; I do not expect ET to be leaving for a LONG time.

ET is safe... So much more on the burner and with Kidszone set to go down in the future they can't close anything else until at least Summer 2017 when Fallon and F&F opens up. Even then I think the best or worst case scenario depending on how you look at it, they refurb it. I actually think MIB will be gone before ET but thats just my strange way of thinking I guess.

The ride is what it is for a 90's dark ride, but I've always loved the queue. Almost makes it feel like your outside at night, that and the queue has this nice smell...
That's my reason to keep E.T.

I believe Melissa Mathison passed away recently (she wrote ET for Speilberg, heck, fwiw, she was married to Harison Ford for a good number of years).

If Speilberg wanted to keep ET open before, I can't imagine he would change his mind now....it is somewhat amazing to me that Katleen Kennedy (now president of Lucas Films) produced ET. I don't know, it just seems like this circle of Hollywood friends that had their hands in making ET...anyway, the story and the movie seem to mean a lot to Spielberg...I imagine Jurasic World was Universal's movie division's most profitable movie this year...I would just think they have good reason to keep one original ride open if It would keep Spielberg happy.

This is all speculation on my part, but I think there is enough history to support my thoughts on this. I really do not get the hate for this ride, I imagine it is rather inexpensive to operate. I do agree that an update treatment someday would be welcome, but I would be shocked if the ride were ever to close.

It's ironic for someone named "darkridelover" to want the most classic dark ride on Universal property to go.

Also, I didn't realize that the E.T. in USJ wasn't built until 2001 but only lasted until 2009. That's a pretty short lifespan for a ride of that caliber, no?

Can they at least pump a little money in to spruce this embarrassment up? The animatronics are so bad they remind me of a Simpsons parody within the ride located literally next door.

Eesh.

That, and I love the first part in the forest. For a kids ride it's really menacing and creepy. When you arrive on the planet, then it's more of a carnival of creatures for kids. Plus the first time you ride this ride and E.T. says your name, it's actually a great surprise at the end. For those reasons alone, E.T. should stay.

It is as amazing as Peter Pan. It is not at the level of Haunted Mansion or Pirates. It needs a redo, but I don't want to see it go. But it does need updated. I think it is the last classic Uni ride and it should stay as Uni needs one classic ride.

It's just not relevant to today's audience. The tech, effects, and story are completely a mess and outdated.

Unfortunately, people won't understand your viewpoint but I do. ET is an embarrassment of what it could be. That said the ET property should stay, but not the ride in it's current state. Which leads me to my next point, what could they possibly do to re-do ET? Instead of a Bicylce ride , what do you do? an Omnimover? It would be interesting to see what creative could come up with ?

I love the ride. The ride system is very cool.....I wish that there were more suspended dark rides. ET is timeless and the movie is a classic. Why anyone would spend so much time and effort into hating on this ride is beyond me. It's not like Universal never builds any new rides or attractions.......

I really don't see why anyone would ever want this ride replaced. Sure it may not have the best animatronics and such, but it's a classic, and it's based on one of the greatest films of all time that will always remain timeless. And I mean how can you not like the queue with that smell? Universal just wouldn't be the same without it, in my opinion.
