Italy literally closed the country down and things aren't getting much better. Our response so far has been *worse*. Far worse.

The response on a federal level has probably been worse, sure. But the public's response, between cancelling public events both large and small, as well as individual efforts (think how many people are currently self-quarantined, working from home, etc. despite most likely not having the virus), is different, and more proactive. Like we're both saying, America's numbers are on trend with Italy. But we also know more/are doing more than they did when they were at this point. I'm certainly not saying that fixes anything -- things will inevitably get worse in this country. I'm only trying to illustrate how current measures taken by the public are helping.

I mean, someone further back in this thread suggested that WDW would/should only shut down if an outbreak was tied to the parks. That would have been absolutely, utterly insane and irresponsible, and it would have cost lives. But there are parts of the world (Italy included) that more or less shared this attitude, and we see now how dire things are. Again, not saying things won't get as dire (or more dire) here, but these efforts are helping. It's just impossible to know how much they can/will help at this juncture.

Italy is densely populated, except for some mountainous areas. Probably not really fair to compare their situation with a much less densely populated USA. Plus they had a huge influx of Chinese tourists and Chinese students in their universities. The virus may well have had deep inroads there as early as December & early January, before any testing was done, when the Chinese government was hiding the virus' existence.

Well, true, but -- the U.S. has individual areas that are as densely populated as Italy, maybe even more so. I mean, Los Angeles county alone . . .

Point being, unless it gets under control soon, the U.S. could have like, "multiple Italys" throughout the country, if that makes sense.

I was unaware the United States doesn't have Chinese students.

True, but Italy never put any travel restraints on Chinese arrivals. US didn't have them in December but they did place the limits on Chinese travelers in January, which somewhat limited the numbers of infected Chinese arriving here.

Not that it’s major news but some restaurants in Portland Maine are shutting down this weekend including mine as a few cases have popped up here. Hoping to re-open next Wednesday is what we’ve been told but no further information. Soooooo guess im not making $$ for a week. Only a few but Portland has one of the highest # of restaurants per capita in the US so it just feels everything is slowly shutting down it’s honestly just wild.

With nothing coming out until April 10 after today, I can’t imagine the movie theatres are far behind. Unless I missed some news by not paying attention for an hour lol

Sooooo Universal is still forcing TMs to report to work despite everything being closed...? All of my TM friends are absolutely furious right now.

Which one, if I can ask? I tended to avoid the more hoity toity places - I'm an eater, not a foodie - but I was known to demolish a slice of Anthony's or smash a taco plate at El Reyo

And what are they going to do? Put all 2,500 in a giant ring around the parks to make sure no one sneaks in? :D

Both of those places still open to my knowledge. I’m at a local bakery that I’ll keep anonymous for the sake of anonymity but it’s famous in Portland, we’re closed thru April. Not a ton of restaurants closing but some are, none of the biggies have yet though so it’s trending downwards but the dominoes haven’t fallen yet if thah makes sense.

Impact of Temperature and Relative Humidity on the Transmission of COVID-19: A Modeling Study in China and the United States

We aim to assess the impact of temperature and relative humidity on the transmission of COVID-19 across communities after accounting for community-level factors

I can't remember if this has been posted or not, it's been a crazy few days.

If it's one thing, Florida has coming, it's heat and humidity.

I know it's been speculated, but never really studied. Hopefully, it's accurate. BURN, BABY! BURN!

I imagine some meetings at first. Maybe some TMs will be reassigned to help deep-clean the parks. Universal said TMs will get paid, but didn't say anything about them getting paid while sitting at home. There's still work to be done.
