I can also point to the Movies box office and it's not going up but down.

I can also look at other announcements and see how you get WAY more engagement then this.

But won't matter the public will either come or not, we will have numbers and I will fully admit I'm wrong if this ride is always busy for years and draws in more guests then before. But my bet is this is just another ride added to the park, which with the switch of the IP to HTTYD, Potter, etc you would see wayyyyyyyy more people excited and show up.

Box office doesn't equal theme park popularity....

Waterworld big flop=Huge theme park popularity.
Spiderman as marvel's most popular character = how many people are talking about webslingers?
Song of the South banned film = People screaming about Splash Mountain going away.

Attraction quality matters way more than IP.

Have we reached the "someone at Universal needs to be fired" stage of denial yet?

Slightly unrelated, I hope this ride is the start of a sustained spate of new development at USH. I really want to see a new land and some EU tech come over, especially if SuperCharged could be on its way out.

NBC4LA - Universal Studios Hollywood's new ‘Fast & Furious' coaster is now under construction

Sounds like we will get new official concept art at some point - "renderings of the new Universal Studios Hollywood attraction will be available in the coming months."

I know they say "in the coming months", but knowing how Universal announces things, my guess is this official concept art won't be coming until late 2024 early 2025.

Had to come on to see what my IU friends thought now that the news is official. With the inclusion of a fully outdoor rollercoaster, I think this will be a decided shift on the overall vision of the park and the type of guests they're targeting. I'm happy the majority of you seem thrilled for it. Sadly, I can't join you knowing what we had to lose to get it. I'm old school, so my vision for the park (and I mean USH specifically, as opposed to Orlando, Disney, or anything else) is that old behind-the-scenes movie-making vibe. I think the peak of that style hit in the early 2000's, and ever since then we've seen a shift toward a more thrill-based theme park. Most notably Backdraft and Special Effects Stages (Cinemagic) were replaced with Transformers, and now Animal Actors and the Special Effects Stage (a watered-down version of its former self) being replaced with Fast and Furious. Not to mention the soundstages that were replaced to make way for Super Nintendo World. So as exciting as all the attention Universal is putting into its parks is, I'm sad that it's losing its originality, what made it unique compared to other theme parks. I completely understand that this old-school version of the park wouldn't make nearly as much money, but as a long-time fan of the past I feel my time is up, and a new generation of the park is starting. Regardless, I'm happy you guys are enjoying the news. I do think this will mark a new era in the park's history.

I get that. There’s part of me that still feels that way about EPCOT… all those great dark rides (Horizons, World of Motion, the original Journey to Imagination, and soon to be Spaceship Earth) are gone. Lost some real history there. That said, most of the new rides are equally fun, just in different ways.

I also feel the “edutainment” shows (like Special Effects Stage) just aren’t needed anymore, when people could just look up a YouTube vid and get just as informed.

Does this also mean the inevitable end of the mummy coaster?

Mummy is gonna stay for a while. Even with F&F people are still going to want a milder coaster.

I mean, IAAPA feels like a place where they could give a first look into the matter--provided that the marketing is not centered primarily on DKC for Osaka.

Mummy will probably stick around for a bit, but I do hope it goes sooner than later.

That plot, plus the cluster behind that and next to TF of soundstages gives them a lot of space, which could prove well for a multi-land endeavor.

I can definitely relate to this, part of me is still conflicted about what had to go in exchange for this game changer. There's no telling if they'll ever try to bring back either idea with the space they currently got.

I just hope that with the coming of the new coaster, we see Supercharged get axed from the tour. It's a mediocre at-tram-tion that got its well deserved criticism in Orlando, and I don't see the need for 2 F&F attractions in one park. This coaster will do a much better job with the feel of the franchise IMO.

I feel this 100000%. Having a theme park right next to a major movie studio is such a unique thing and I fell in love with this park because of the Studio Tour and all the “behind the scenes” attractions. I’ll always be nostalgic for that aspect.

But I also love how the Universal parks have been able to innovate their “ride the movies” theme to such amazing heights. I feel like this coaster is in lock step with that idea.

Mummy is sticking around, but it might get a retheme sooner or later. It's still a family coaster, the park wouldn't have one if it closed.
