I just want to go fast in this ride. Is that too much to ask for? Especially coming from a franchise called "Fast & Furious".

Reports from the Hollywood version report that the feeling of speed is something they are successful on.

Btw, I do not know the world you live in but in the world I live in every person has seen at least one Fast and the Furious film. And if they haven't, they know what it is. On the same note, pretty much everyone knows Avatar as well. They both have name recognition. It's a question of fanbase.

I don't think Avatar really has a fan base. I think people enjoyed it but it's a distant memory now

I grew up on Fast & Furious. I remember when the movie first came out. They had brought all of the decked out cars to my local theater for a big show. It was focused around street racing. I understand the franchise has gone down a different path now. All I'm saying is if you're going to name an attraction "Fast & Furious Supercharged" you should be going fast.

I completely agree.

Universal will get the crowd that they are wanting and Disney will get the crowd that they are wanting.

I grew up w the serious as well.
4/7 of the movies are mainly huge, action blockbusters involving high-speed action and thrills involving motor vehicles.

Universal will want to replicate / throw you into as much chaos as they possibly can.

Anyone/anybody can make something that goes fast...

Personally, if the effect/simulation/feeling of speed is present/successful - I could care less.

The thing to remember though is that it's not really about fan base. Sure, it helps built hype and people will be drawn to it but I think Avatar will visually blow people away even if they hated the film. I'm not a fan of HP but the scale and detail stirs something deep inside of me that I love.

Majority of the folks I know would pick to attend Universal Studios to see F&F than spend a day at Disney's Animal Kingdom for Avatar.

My friends will view it as going to the Zoo to see avatar versus going to Harry Potter and Fast & Furious is also there.

I think some people seriously underestimate how much love there is for Fast and Furious.

These are not our parents theme parks anymore.

I think I have a slightly different view for how people plan to go to parks coming from the UK. I don't think people here select just a park, they're planning on doing everything and buying multi day tickets to do it. I think most people here will view Avatar as just a bonus of going to WDW.

Don't get me wrong though, I love F&F

I would hope you have a radically different view for how you plan to go. It's huge to come from the UK. You have no reason not to do everything and my UK friends from undergrad do it all - they do not have to pick and choose.

I was simply speaking on a strictly versus standard. Most of my friends have zero interest in Disney whatsoever

Brits in Orlando are strange characters... When they visit, they stay for 2-3 weeks with priorities to do the damnedest things. My neighbors were from Birmingham and on one visit, they all flew out to Ohio to see a country western concert. They also enjoyed Old Town and Gatorland. They did Disney and Universal... but didn't have much to say about either. I was left mostly speechless.

I get the feeling that we won't know for sure what we are getting with this ride until it opens, which will be a change from more or less every ride in the last 5 years.

I hope we get an enjoyable experience and everyone is pleasantly surprised but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

The 2-3 weeks is due to cost ( spent nearly £7000 on last years holiday mainly due to wife insisting on staying at Disney) and most Brits spend 2 weeks on holiday no matter where they go. However I can assure you we spent almost every waking moment at a park.

I think most of us have a love affair with the US and will embrace everything. The strange thing is that the majority of people who visit the US are heading to Orlando and they just assume that's what all of America is like.

We're the anti Brazilians. We travel in small numbers, love to queue and are well reserved.

My wife's family (Wife parents, sister and boyfriend and their 1 year old daughter) was meant to be coming with us this year and they've never been before but they've since pulled out. The whole thing was sounding like a nightmare. The mum wanted to stay in a villa in the middle of no where. She wanted to do everything but didn't want to go to a park every day. Her plan was if it was too much for the baby, she could just take her back to the hotel thinking it would be a 5min drive. We would rent 3 cars so we could all do our own thing but would travel together.

When I heard they had pulled out, it was incredibly difficult to not smile and try and act saddened by it.

You dodged a bullet there, my in-laws have been talking about coming in future as well and I've tried to explain to them that just because a travel agent says everything is a 10-20 min drive doesn't mean it is unless they can somehow remove all other traffic from the roads.

I think they're meant to be coming next year. We hadn't planned on doing Disney this year but it looks like we're going all out now as we haven't been in 3 years. The problem is, is that we're going to have to do it all again next year and I don't think there's going to be really be anything new. I'm sure I'll still enjoy it though. Ideally, my parents will come along too as they haven't had a holiday in about 8 years due to many reasons and we went pretty much every year when I was younger so id love them to see how much it has changed.

I haven't met a person that has seen the movie. I mean I sure I have, but it is not a franchise that I hear people say I went and saw F&F X last night/week/month. I hear about other movies, but never that. When Avatar was out I swear everyone I knew went and saw that thing. I don't see many movies because I get migraines, so I didn't, but I was like the only one. I also never see Facebook chatter about F&F movies like I see chatter about other popular movies. Maybe it is an age thing, where the younger crowd likes it more? Don't know. Honestly never really knew what it was, who was in it, or really anything about it at all (like how many movies were made) until this site. In fact I barely knew it existed.

That's insane.

It's the 7th Highest Grossing Franchise of all time. Ahead of Batman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, Transformers, X-Men, Hunger Game:...

This further illustrates in my mind that Universal will get who they want to get with Fast & Furious and Disney will get who they want with Avatar.

But you know what it is.

Fun fact as well: it is Universal's highest grossing franchise.
