Because the “family friendly” complaints are, consistently, combinations of black-or-white, slippery slope, composition/division arguments from unimaginative people who believe the HHN in their mind is the HHN that exists. The whole thing didn’t actually become a “wide spread” thing until Stranger Things in 2018, which ignored Carnival Graveyard, Halloween 4, Slaughter Sinema, Chucky, and Blumhouse. It continued in 2019, because Stranger Things AND Ghostbusters, despite Nightingales and House of a Thousand Corpses. It’s a stance based in ignorant selfishness. The event has always included soft, horror-adjacent IPs. People upset about Stranger Things, Ghostbusters, and Eilish would be thrilled for Jurassic Park or Jaws. Because there’s no consistency to the argument.
Basically, if an IP they don’t like or doesn’t air on Shudder shows up, the “family friendly” argument will start creeping back into the discussion.
