You think these are leftovers? Why wouldn't they have just put them out with the rest of the merch last year? This looks to be a re-design to me. Advertises the new announcment/event, and gives the people that bought the other stuff new and different things to buy.

I definitely think these are leftovers. I'd be legitimately shocked if it is new. It's too early for new merch. Probably going in a different direction this year and are trying to maximize profits.

Wonder why they didn't have this merch available during the mini HHN? Because the house wasn't open until the last weekend?

I'm assuming yes. Contract stuff is what caused the last-minute opening, so I'm sure there was some contract stuff about what merch could be sold if the house wasn't "open".

I guess I'm also confused on why Beetlejuice merch isn't sold normally year-round anyway. I would assume he's still a popular pop-culture figure for Universal and even the Monsters have made a comeback for merch.

Unless I'm much mistaken, there are usually a few pieces in the Film Vault. Nothing you can't get at Hot Topic.

From my understanding, Merch takes 6-8 months from design to delivery and it typically doesn’t arrive until August. They already had this stuff, most likely. I definitely think this stems from a merch dump. From what I saw, only the Tribute store was selling HHN gear last year (save maybe a couple of racks at the Universal store). There was nowhere near the typical floorspace used, park-wide, for HHN merch. So of course not everything was displayed.

I believe there were merch carts around too with HHN stuff. I recall seeing some by MIB last October.

Some of this lead time is the reason they don't do HHN Tervises anymore, per the guy in charge of merch when I asked him in the first Tribute store.

Still not enough spots for many more SKUs than they put out last year. I think they'll trickle out whatever else they have through the year, and then all new stuff at HHN.

Perhaps this is left over merch from Hollywood? The tags say HHN21.

I don't know how Uni does things, but I'm pretty familiar with retail flow. This probably weren't tagged until they hit the store, or wherever Uni does its stock prep.

HHN (20)21.

Hollywood hasn't had an HHN 21 yet.

On FB I see nothing but excitement about Beetlejuice. Interesting to see zero “family” complaints. On one hand I feel like quantity makes a difference but on the other I think even if you had nine “scary” houses, none of it would matter to many of these people if the tenth was Billie.

Because the “family friendly” complaints are, consistently, combinations of black-or-white, slippery slope, composition/division arguments from unimaginative people who believe the HHN in their mind is the HHN that exists. The whole thing didn’t actually become a “wide spread” thing until Stranger Things in 2018, which ignored Carnival Graveyard, Halloween 4, Slaughter Sinema, Chucky, and Blumhouse. It continued in 2019, because Stranger Things AND Ghostbusters, despite Nightingales and House of a Thousand Corpses. It’s a stance based in ignorant selfishness. The event has always included soft, horror-adjacent IPs. People upset about Stranger Things, Ghostbusters, and Eilish would be thrilled for Jurassic Park or Jaws. Because there’s no consistency to the argument.

Basically, if an IP they don’t like or doesn’t air on Shudder shows up, the “family friendly” argument will start creeping back into the discussion.

Most HHN-related arguments fall into this category of nonsense.

And you also have a**holes who saw the first speculation map last year who will say the event is getting "woke" or "becoming SJW" for having female-centered houses.

People are so lame. Gimme an Alien, Exorcist, Carrie, Dead Silence, and The Ring as an IP lineup and I'm happy as a pig in sh!t.

I feel like all of those IP’s listed are fairly common wants that would be widely accepted/acceptable though, and wouldn’t necessarily cause a backlash or judgments like the IP’s (biggest example: Billie) discussed in the above convo.

Well, Maddux was saying people were pissed about "female-centered houses", which is just stupid in my eyes (though he's probably correct). Now, for people who didn't want Eilish because she's female, that's also stupid. But for people who didn't want Eilish because they don't like her music, then that doesn't bother me so much because everyone has their likes/dislikes and I don't begrudge people having opinions on actual merits and not prejudices. I wouldn't want a Hanson house lol!

But, with the ones I listed, I can almost assure you there would be some people who would object to that many female-centered houses for that reason only.

A plurality of complaints came from middle aged male HHN fans who couldn't recognize an Eilish track is your played out for them off and told them who sang it.
