Well, Maddux was saying people were pissed about "female-centered houses", which is just stupid in my eyes (though he's probably correct). Now, for people who didn't want Eilish because she's female, that's also stupid. But for people who didn't want Eilish because they don't like her music, then that doesn't bother me so much because everyone has their likes/dislikes and I don't begrudge people having opinions on actual merits and not prejudices. I wouldn't want a Hanson house lol!

But, with the ones I listed, I can almost assure you there would be some people who would object to that many female-centered houses for that reason only.

Maybe so, but, especially speaking on Billie’s house—it was rooted in her own art & designs.

IIRC the women characters &/or women centered IP’s we’ve had (and the one’s you’ve listed) are born from the minds of men. Carrie (which didn’t all the SA’s playing her in a scare zone quit due to guest behavior?) Stephen King, The Ring (02) Gore Verbinski, Alien Ridley Scott, The Exorcist William Peter Blatty, etc.

The haunt scene doesn’t usually take too kindly to women (unless we’re victims and/or sexualized) so while I don’t disagree that you’d find people who are simply angry due to a female centered event, I truly don’t believe those IP’s would face the amount of hardcore backlash Billie did.

La Llorona was the best case scenario. But yea it seems like horror audiences in general are only comfortable when women fulfill specific tropes, and that extends to haunts as well.

Well, Billie Eilish is more popular and, therefore, more "controversial" (meaning the more popular something is, the more visceral opinions there are of it/them/etc) than any movie I would imagine - so, yeah, I don't think any IP would face the amount of backlash that Billie did. BUT, I would propose that Justin Bieber would elicit similar hardcore backlash. And, yes, I realize that Billie Eilish is far more horror-adjacent than Justin Bieber; but, my point is that, while some of the backlash surely was gender-prejudice, I don't think we can make a wide swath to generalize that it all was. She's an ultra-popular artist, and that is bound to divide people regardless of any inherent traits imo.

Could anyone explain to me why ‘IT’ is almost always confirmed by everyone for it not to come? Not doubting you, I just genuinely don’t know why it’s such an impossibility...

Warner Brothers for quite a while - depends on if they decide to have their haunt event in future years.

I think it's because WB is trying to really ring it out as much as they can before they hand it to anyone in anyway. It's still a really profitable IP rn and if I were to guess, if Warner did put a digit on it, it may be too much for them to invest.

I know Uni was in talks with WB once upon a time to obtain it but it didn't work out, I actually don't remember why it failed. All I know is that it did happen, multiple times in fact.

It looks like I just got the HHN equivalent of “not all men” lol I think it’s best we agree to disagree on this one, cause, even if I continue to explain my point that her gender and the way she presents herself is 100% the root cause of the vitriol against her, the fact is we’re not gonna see eye to eye on this—you don’t know what it’s like to be a woman, especially one in a male dominated environment.

Universal didn’t get it because WB was using it at Horror Made Here.

Anything King owns the rights to is a no-go, as for whatever reason - he's been asked but won't say why - does not want his work in a haunt. I would imagine he signed the rights away on IT, or you would not have seen it at WB's haunt. Unfortunately, no one seems to know what he still owns and doesn't, or we'd have a Marvelesque explainer.

Notice it was Kubrick's Shining and not King's. In fact, they almost lost the house when an email to travel agents mentioned King's name, which was a big no no.

Since this is speculation I thought I'd add the possibility of a What We Do in the Shadows house. Man, I would bite the bullet and finally go to this event if they announced that.

It's on my watch list and it sounds like it has a lot of potential... also sounds like it's locked up with FXX/Disney rights stuff.

Yeah I remember hearing about that. King is really weird about the whole thing. It's not like Uni tries to put somebody's work in a poor light. But it's his prerogative I suppose. I wish we'd get some Carpenter films - I think an Assault on Precinct 13 house would be a blast! As well as a Fog scarezone.

Yep. Anything under the FOX umbrella is 99% off limits for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

And you also have a**holes who saw the first speculation map last year who will say the event is getting "woke" or "becoming SJW" for having female-centered houses.

Who said this?

Was it Beetlejuice that gave it away?
