There’s literally like, one scene, that would translate well. That’s it
Long time lurker and attendee of both coasts, first time poster and avid fan of NOPE:
I would like to disagree, respectfully, as i can think of multiple scenarios where hiding in or under certain structures could translate incredibly well: I.e. the stables at night, the star lasso experience, when the house gets dumped on, etc.
The problem is thinking of it as a traditional HHN house where scare actors pop out of boo-holes dressed as creepy monsters. Outside of the scene i believe you're thinking of, I can really only think of Ghost Busters, Beetlejuice, and Stranger things where the good guys were the ones popping out of holes and saying s--t. And you'd be allowed to do that, but only to a certain extent as much of the film isn't dialogue heavy. But even if you get rid of that, and rely on atmosphere, you can get REAL experimental with it. You'd need the ability to vibrate an entire room, as well as a killer sound system to suggest movement and mass(like the backlot studio tour in LA is doing). Being in an enclosed space, simulating moonlight or even daylight, you'd be able to experiment with miniatures and forced perspective, projection tech, and the ability to whirl fog in a tunnel. Hell, even reverse-use that bungie rope technology where someone jumps AT you to show someone being pulled UP and away.
-SPOILERS-
In my personal "Blue-Sky"(pun intended) imagination of the engineering behind the concept, I'd end it by being eaten. Being forced to walk into a large vacuous hole, like being sucked up, into that uncomfortable and gyrating space with the breathing walls and the only light being the large green iridescent eye looking down at you. I personally feel like that would be f---ing terrifying.
