The Hollywood zone has felt super dead the last couple years without the Shrek house portal drawing people into that part of the park. Assuming a Mel's zone doesn't fully replace the Hollywood zone it would be a great way to funnel more people into that area in addition to being fun on its own merits.

EDIT: Unless people are imagining this just being the Hollywood zone in its usual spot? It'd feel like a shame for it not to be lit up by the neon imo.

Oh, a Mel's Die-In zone with zombie/vampire bussers with a 50s soundtrack? Inject that straight into my veins.

Definitely think it would make the most sense for the Hollywood zone - or even a "roaming horde" that just stays in front of Mel's.

The merch last year was uh something, but I loved the Mel’s Die in merch! Had to buy the shirt and wall art right away! Looks like many others did as well. I see the Mel’s shirt so often.

Screamhouse wasn’t exactly the same those two years. Everything after the from the autopsy room one was completely different.

Were those first few people under the stairs houses the same?

According to the guides on the Unmasking the Horror tour last year, no - they said that only AWIL has ever been a direct repeat in Orlando.

I don't think we can really take everything the guides say as absolute truth. They are well-intentioned, of course, but sometimes even the official party line isn't really accurate. Remember, even AWIL 2.0 did include an additional wolf puppet and some other small changes.

Agreed, the two years I took the tour the guides have been great, and I would highly recommend the tour, but I got some confliction info. about the event history. The guides seem more educated on that current year then the events history.

The issue with HHN’s official history is that they didn’t start really keeping an “official” history of the event—even internally—until several years in (from my understanding, Sweet 16 was when any effort to start maintaining extensive records). So those super early years have very little. The only reason I know the differences between the Screamhouses because I was IN the first one.

It's also presumably why later, more exhaustive "anniversary" efforts (think 2010/HHNXX) focused heavily on material from 2015-on. Not a lot of records or remains of stuff before that.

Tangent, I think it started because—as they were trying to develop the 2006 website archives—they likely realized how little they had. Most of what they used were previously used press photos. It wasn’t as “insidery” as they maybe wanted. And, as its first celebratory anniversary year, that’s when they recognized the potential of ACTUALLY archiving stuff.

I remember being a bit disappointed that, outside some generic creature/costume pulls, most of the anniversary material for HHNXX came from 2015 and later. In hindsight, I realize they used basically everything they had from the older years - the "warehouse" theme wasn't an accident. There was a tweet or short video or something from Aiello and company sharing how excited they were to find a giant skull that had sat in the La Bamba fountain in the event's early years, for example, and that was one of the few older items of significance they were able to bring back.

This is totally fair, and I didn't mean to suggest we should take it as gospel, more throwing that out as a data point.

Actually... they started archiving the event when TJ Mannarino took over. So it started in the early-mid 90s

Going back to my Aiello rabbit hole.

You know who originally played Sam Meetz?

Mike Aiello.

Wouldn’t shock me to see a return.

Without getting too far down the rabbit hole. Mike’s kid was a scare actor last year. It wouldn’t surprise me if Mike wanted to see him cast as an actor in a new Meetz house.

Are we thinking the casting call for the roller skaters are for a house or zone or possibly even a show?

My thoughts are it’s probably for a house as I thinking it might be safer with how crowed the streets get. Put them in a house with a walk way like a zip line or bungee scare has and use that as a skate way.

If they were for a zone it’s just to crowded and will be dangerous to the scare actors and guest. If anything they would have to be put up on stages or have a walkway like they did for Vanity Ball.

It also just could be used for a show. So they will be on a stage anyways.

2002 felt like the real start of the event being archived.
