I would've at least put in one of those 1950s 3D scary movies and make use of the in theatre effects and dress up the front of Shrek like a classic theatre. Would've been cheesy fun.

Do you think Shrek 4D will be open during HHN? Since there is no maze in that location?

It will not.

And yeah, Allen, there were rumors swirling around that Murdy was thinking about doing something like that... but the budget for the mazes come first so I guess it was cut.

Oh wow that's cool! But....that would've cost almost nothing except for a different marquee and new queue footage (it's already a torture chamber, so no retheming needed!) And then adding the 1950s 3D film would've cost close to nothing as well. Oh well!

Well they'd have to pay the extra employees too...that costs a fair amount.

I'm sure the removal of those games is an overnight type of job. Today I was able to see the Guard Tower has been built on the outside of the Walking Dead maze and the facade for Insidious is about ready to be painted/textured. The porch walkway on the Bates Motel looks nice and fresh after being redone a couple weeks ago. It was in bad shape. After this weekend we'll start seeing some real progress.

I'll be interested to see if they utilize the Universal Plaza in any future events.

It'll be used this year as the pretty setting of a queue.

Next year though...

By the looks of those photos, couldn't they easily house a maze right where the fountain is? Just turn off the jets and you're good. Maybe it isn't as big in person, but it seems like an appropriate spot for a featured maze of the year.

Most definitely. It wouldn't surprise me if they use the fountain for a maze next year.

The whole point of the fountain is that it can be turned off and the space be used as a flex space for seasonal events. UP as a whole is pretty similar to Paradise Park at DCA in terms of overall structure (Fountains by day, viewing area at night).

Murdy did say that it would be used for HHN. Not sure if he just meant that it would be open or used for a scarezone though..

I think it's being used as a queue. A very nice queue, but queue nonetheless.

Wouldn't surprise me either! The fountain area is almost twice as big as the back alley next to Mel's that they're using for a maze this year, so the fountain area will definitely be a great flex space. We'll see the potential of the area during Grinchmas :)
