Picture it: Construction of Hollywood Drive-In Golf at Universal Orlando
Hollywood Drive-In Golf, two miniature golf courses under construction at Universal CityWalk, is beginning to take shape at Universal Orlando.
The overall theme will be cinematic, with one course being sci-fi in nature (“Invaders from Planet Putt”) and the other themed on the horror genre (“The Haunting of Ghostly Green”). This structure, on the Bubba Gump side of the parking garage crosswalk, sure looks futuristic robot to me.
The outlines and structures of other holes are appearing down below.
On the other side, adjacent to the cineplex, appears to be the entrance/exit for the courses.
From the moving sidewalk heading into CityWalk, a form in the center dominates. Lots of conversation in that stretch as to what we’re looking at on the cineplex side. It appears to have an entrance on the far right, perhaps a mouth to something … something perhaps with three eyes … a hippo or an alligator or a giant worm? A kid near me suggested it was an igloo.
UPDATE: This just in — Universal officials says it’s a “giant space worm” and part of the sci-fi course.
That mouth is a little more clear in this shot (pardon the shadows).
Finally, a little perspective from the second level of CityWalk. That’s the course entrance at bottom left, and the giant
space worm is the gray blob behind it. Hollywood Drive-In Golf is scheduled to open “early next year,” Universal Orlando officials have said.
