Doesn't it make it incredibly intense though? As Hulk and DD are the only coasters I've experienced (and I find the Hulk's launch pretty extreme :) )

I've blacked out on HRRR once out of my 10+ rides on it. I'm sure exactly what you mean by intense but it is odd. HRRR is the first and only ride I've blacked out on. All that happens is the G-Forces cause you to "black-out" in which you can't see anything for several seconds. I freaked out because I had no clue what blacking-out was at the time but after I learnt more about coasters, I discovered it isn't harmful and just caused by certain forces.

It's nothing to worry about and shouldn't scare you into not trying HRRR.

Only once did I ever come close. It was on HRRR and it was only a gray out. I was still concious but couldn't see. The other two times I rode, though, it was fine. I'm pretty good when it comes to intensity.

When you say, not harmful, that's not entirely true. Extended periods or overexposure to strong g-forces can cause serious brain damage. If you actually black out (go unconcious), then I'd suggest not riding intense coasters.

This is the only coaster I have blacked out on.:

wienerlooper.jpg

It was at Circus World in Haines City, FL. And called "Wiener Looping". I was shocked and a little bit disbelieving, so I rode it 4 times. I blacked out every time.

One way to fight blacking out due to G-Forces is to hold you breath and bare down like you are doing a abs crunch. Blacking out happens fairly regularly to fighter pilots and they have developed special suits called compression suits that prevent it from happening. What happens when you black out is the g-force causes too much blood to drain from your brain (down into your torso). In general it is not harmful.

The reports of blacking out on King Dominion's new Giga is WHY I want to go ride it.

From the height of that drop, I can see why you blacked out on it!

I was thinking at the end of the biggest drop or the loop.

OK Here is how this coaster works. It would pull you out of the station backwards up the hill (where I have the green arrow below). After you got to the top it would release you and you would shoot through the station into the sharp corner after the station where I have the red arrow. The area of the red arrow is where I would black out.

You would continue around that corner into the vertical loop then up the other near vertical hill. You would stop near the top and then do the whole thing in reverse. I never blacked out going backwards.

That sounds like a fun ride (except for the blacking out part). I'd like to try it out next time I'm in the area.

Unfortunately the park is closed now. There is a Walmart where the park was. The coaster was moved to Flamingo Land and renamed Bullet. Here is a video of it:

I doesn't look all that intense, but the forces were pretty extreme. I notice from the video that they don't take you up nearly as far before they drop you.

Curse the dreaded Walmart superstore chain for getting rid of an amusement park!

Dave, sadly most people don't know about Circus World and Boardwalks and Baseball... The most intense coaster like that style I rode was Deja Vu that was an awesome coaster...sadly to many issues...

Looking at the Wait Times site, looks like Rockit closed with a 3 hour wait last night? Ouch :) not sure we'll be able to ride Rockit in June then since I didn't really want to make it the first ride we go on (I'd need to build a bit of courage first!)

It had such a long wait due to Grad Bash last night. It is an event for seniors in high school and the park stays open until 2 AM. The event is always extremely busy.

TBad shouldn't we expect those kind of queues in late June though? Although I suppose that was specifically for grads who are bound to stay all night partying, hopefully in late June quite a bit of the park will clear out by late evening due to children etc?

Tiredoldspook, as much as I'd like to say I could ride it just after opening, I just don't know if I could! We'll see :)

VERY cool, can't wait! Lets see how often it happens in a day without it breaking down.
