Rode Rockit again today to try to get a different train than the dreaded #5. Got #3 and it was a lot less rough. I am certain there is a variation between trains, but I really believe the big problem is the track. I don't believe the transition between segments of track is smooth. I also don't believe the bends in the track are smooth enough. I was looking at the treble clef and it looked like short straight sections of track making a turn rather than a smooth curve. Anyone agree/disagree?

I somehow doubt the designers would allow for that. However I think it might be possible that the type of track used causes a rougher ride than, say, B&M box track.

That wouldn't happen, again because the ride is simulated on a computer, and all of the track pieces are built and molded by machines as well, its hard for that to be the case. I just don't understand how these cars can be rough, it boggles my mind.

Does anyone know for sure if other X Car coasters have been rough?

Sure, the tracks are formed by a machine, but there is a simple thing called "tolerancing." No part is made perfectly, even by machines. The important thing is holding tight tolerances = money. Loose tolerances = easier to manufacture and cheaper. It is entirely possible that the designers didn't call out tight enough tolerances on the profile of the track. Alternatively, the mating parts must be designed to ensure that even if you have two almost perfect segments of track, if they are not perfect RELATIVE TO EACH OTHER, the tracks will be misaligned. I am a mechanical engineer at one of the US's leading defense contractors, and trust me, computer simulations only get you so far. Not saying I am an expert in modern day coaster design, but there is a lot more critical design detail than meets the eye.

I wen't on today with barely any wait at all, sat in the front, it wasn't train 5, and I don't think a coaster can get smoother. This is one of my favorite coasters of all time because its just pure fun! If your worried about the roughness ask the team memeber to be seated in the front, you wil probably have to wait for the next train but it's a much better ride IMO.

Depending on what time you rode it was fun... It had major problems today. It went down for a while the queue was emptied and then when it reopened it only ran three trains and one of them was only loading the back three rows. Pics later tonight.

I know, I was waiting in line and it went down so I left and went back around 2:30 and got right on.

I've only been on this ride twice very soon after it opened (in fact I think it was the first winter it was open). Waited forever, were very excited. I loved it! I haven't been on since and it's a real shame to hear all the bad reviews about it... The only complaint I had was that it was too short, even the music seemed in sync with the ride... Hope they solve its problems soon...

Are there ghosts in the front train? :look:  But it is still pretty weird to see the front train empty, while the back train is with people.

^ They were doing that yesterday with one of the trains too. A tech was looking at something in the front train. Wait times yesterday were minimal it was great! We waited 15 minutes for Rockit, 10 for ROTM, and only 25 for Forbidden Journey. Plus there weren't any lines for Butterbeer, the shops, and only a 10 minute wait for the wandshop. Good times!

Oh... before I forget. We were in row 5 on train 6 and it was actually pretty decent. I don't think this breaks any Top 20 lists, but it wasn't mind numbingly awful yesterday like my previous rides.

Yesterday Rockit was a lot smoother than its ever been for me and it was a much more enjoyable ride.
