Everything I've heard has pointed elsewhere for the Monsters, Inc. Coaster - not Maurer. That certainly may have changed during the design phase, but so far Maurer doesn't even offer inverted coasters. Doesn't mean that they can't develop one, but certainly makes them a less likely choice.

Last I had heard when I was working there (this was about a year ago) was that they had already given or were planning on getting them to do the coaster since they'd worked with them on Crush's Coaster in DLP...as far as theme I've heard everything from Ratatouille to Cars to Monsters Inc...I just hope that Maurer will get more contracts here in the US...can't wait for team member previews of HRRR...is it just me or do the seats look really comfy? hehe:)

This information doesn't come from the conjecture of people who work front-line operations in the theme park; it comes from people directly working on the project from a design standpoint behind the scenes. The Monsters, Inc. Coaster, unless going through radical revisions, is not going to be a compact spinning ride, but a junior inverted coaster. Again, Maurer has never built any type of inverted coaster before. I don't get why people instantly assume Maurer just because they built one coaster for Disney. Monsters is definitely the theme, though.

I definitely hope Maurer gets more US contracts, but I highly doubt the next WDW coaster will be it. As for X-car trains, though I've been on over 700 different coasters, not one of them has yet had those vehicles. Every park that got one recently (the one in the US and several in Europe) that I've been to opened them one year after my visit. Thanks for that! From what I've been told, the seats are comfortable, but the restraints are kind of bulky and cumbersome. Of course, in terms of track layout Rockit is a lot more aggresive than anything they've done to date. Past X-car experiences might not even be accurate depictions of the comfort level here. I would say it looks to be a pretty enjoyable ride though.

There's still not even a peep of when those Team Member previews will be, is there?

I actually heard it when I was working with Project Management...and once again this was a year ago and it more than likely has changed since I worked there...as far as Team Member previews...I just read the newsletter and it mentioned they'd be coming soon, however no specific date was given...hopefully here in a couple weeks we'll have em :)

I'm fairly positive that it would be against company policy to post the Universal Orlando Team Member Newsletter on a public forum... :look:

I'm actually very curious about something. This is an awkward question to ask so please don't think there is any disrespect intended... Have you ridden Manta? I have a friend who is a huge coaster geek, but happens to be of larger upper body dimensions. Hehas essentially avoided going to SeaWorld since the ride opened because he's embarassed that he won't be able to fit in the restraints.

Did you have any trouble getting on Revenge of the Mummy? That ride had pretty firm lap bar restrictions (in terms of how far it had to lock down) when it first opened. If you made that, I'm confident (granted, just guessing here) that you'll be fine for Rip Ride Rockit.

oh it's okay man :) yeah I'm 6'7 370 so yeah I'm a big guy hehe...I haven't been on Manta yet, however I have trouble with other B&M coasters so I'm in the same boat as your friend...I do have other friends who are large who were able to fit into it but had to be jammed in there by the ride ops...I do fit in Mummy fortunately :) just barely though hehe...from the looks of it and a video I saw of a bunch of people getting into an X-Car (one was a big guy) I'm confident I'll fit :)

I'm surprised you fit on Mummy, but not because of your size; because of your height. 6'7" is a lot of knee to cram into that small space. If you can ride that, I'd guess Rockit to be a non-issue for you.

Good to know about the B&M thing. He's shorter than I am, and I'm 6'. I'd guess he's 5'9" or so, maybe 300ish. Have you been on a B&M flyer elsewhere before?

Hmm. I almost wonder if Batwing, with its vest-style restraints might be more of a threat to fit in than the B&Ms. My friend's been on all the Vekoma flyers and several of the B&M flyers, but he's gained quite a bit of weight since so he has big-time concerns. I hope he's able to fit. It would be very discouraging for him otherwise. :o

On a coaster note - granted all of this has become completely unrelated to Rockit - I actually like the Vekoma flyers more than the B&Ms. Zaney, huh?

Pictured above is what the original plan the for ride system was in the Monsters, Inc. coaster. That may have at some point changed, but it's not even remotely similar to what you are thinking in your post.

There's a *very* big difference between "interted" and "inversion."

I don't know a single person who doesn't refer to an inverted roller coaster as a RC with inversions. Every enthusiast I know refers to coasters hanging under the track as suspended/suspended inverted.

You're wrong. Well, of course you *are* right that an inversion is when something goes upside down, but a coaster where you ride ski-lift style is an inverted coaster. Suspended coasters actually refer to rides that hang under the track and have a certain amount of side to side outward swinging. Due to B&Ms copyright on the inverted design, Vekoma - the first company to, ahem, draw inspiration from it (read: copy) they call theirs suspended looping coasters and the design includeds an ever so slightly less rigid axel assembly. The point is that wheather a manufacturer calls it "inverted" or "suspended" due to the legality of copyrights, there's not a single manufacturer, designer or person in the industry that will refer to a looping roller coaster as an "inverted" roller coaster.

You clearly do not know a lot of enthusiasts - which isn't so much a bad thing - personally I'd rather be around normal people when I hang in parks than rabid fanboys (not saying you are one by any means!)

Calling a looping roller coaster "inverted" just shows a lack of knowledge. I'm not trying to put you down; I'm trying to educate you on this. Please forgive me if it comes off as harsh.

To add solid factual basis:
tp://www.bolliger-mabillard.com/products/inverted_en.aspx
http://www.vekoma.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=23

And note, as mentioned that Intamin and Vekoma (when dealing with full-circuit inverted roller coasters) refer to them as suspended looping coasters to avoid copyright claims from B&M. Vekoma can get away with it when marketing the Giant Inverted Boomerang because B&M doesn't deal in shuttle coasters.

It's clearly printed right there on the home page. I'm really not sure what they could do to stop you, even though you'd techincally be violating their terms by viewing it - but how they dropped the ball and didn't login-protect that is beyond me! ha.

So this is a bit off the topic of HRRR, but Maurer is indeed developing an inverted roller coaster. And it's an inverted spinning coaster, no less. Here's their patent application:

A fairground ride has a rail section which is usually employed in conventional roller coasters. The rail section defines a driving route for a vehicle, which is positively driven along the driving route. The vehicle is configured as an inverted vehicle ("inverted coaster"), which means the rail section is essentially arranged at the head of the passengers accommodated in the vehicle. The vehicle has a car with groups of wheels, which engage with the rail section. A seat pod with the seats is especially configured such that the lower limbs and feet of the passengers accommodated in the seats are free to move. In accordance with the invention, the seat pod with the seats is arranged about a central rotation axis rotatable relative to the car.

Hey! Now that is great news. That should be lots of fun. Still not what the original plan for the Monsters, Inc. Coaster is - but I would LOVE for it to change to this.

The plans and concept art I have very clearly include the Vekoma Junior Suspended Coaster system.

Hoooooope it changes! :cross:

Bhahaha. Thank you for taking a very well known coaster type and allowing it to be confused with something from a porno flick :yikes:
