To me, the characters within the film fall directly into line with how characters stereo-typically act when they find themselves in a slasher story. They are brash, young people who give little thought to the future and are just trying to have a good time. They react, for the most part, stupidly to the threat of Johnny. Thus they become fodder for Johnny and the natural violence found in the world.

The key to the entire movie is what Kris decides to do with Johnny's locket. For the last act the film beings building to the typical slasher climax, a big, bruising battle between the Goliath and the fierce, nothing left to lose Final Girl. However, instead of continuing to thoughtlessly participate in the story that's been told many, many times, Kris does the intelligent thing: she simply lets Johnny have what he wants. She let's nature be. She acts in good faith. And that's enough to satiate Johnny. He does not follow her. He does not continue on his violent impulsive path. His own rightful property is returned and nature becomes quiet once more. The woman in the pickup truck tells the story of her brother that re-enforces the idea of nature having violent tendencies that only let up when we do the smart thing and act against our own human retaliatory programming.

There's also heavy signs of Kris suffering trauma after the incident, being so paranoid Johnny is still after her. Suggesting to me that perhaps Kris/the audience has done so much damage already that the scars will remain even if we start doing the right things and acting in good faith.

That's my interpretation. In a Violent Nature is great because I do think it IS open to lots of interpretations though!

I honestly love your thoughts on this Cory, and -admittedly- i might need to rewatch this on my own. To be transparent, i was ALONE in this theater with one of my best friends for a late night viewing the weekend it came out (i seriously think it was like Sunday night at 10PM and he was an EMT on call so he had late nights where he was supposed to stay up, so we would purposely see late night movies). We sat in the middle of the theater by ourselves talking out loud through the entire thing and questioning it to one another as it went on and i -callously- think my appreciation for this movie lands more on the Mystery Science Theatre front of 'two a-holes who don't shut up' during the movie. It is clear that you appreciate the writing more than i do and i think it demands a second viewing now so i can try and read it better without any distractions. I remember liking how the locket gets returned, but i conversely felt the truck scene overstayed its welcome and soured my taste on the ending. It's not that i expected the killer to come back but because i expected the truck driver to have ulterior motives based on the story she was telling. I thought it had a point other than allegory. In hindsight, i guess i wanted the ending to be more Strange Darling and i fault myself for having those expectations in the first place. lol

Stay vigilant everyone - I've now gotten spoiled on 2 deaths for Final Destination: Bloodlines. Scrolling through reddit and BAM.

Don't do this to me, Codeman, I'm seeing it tomorrow! I usually love spoilers but Final Destination is one of those franchises where i'm like... NAH, let's see it happen live. I want the shock and awe, bb.

I've heard every single death is CGI. Adjust your expectations accordingly.

But if you're curious..

- Erik is torn in half by a wheelchair being sucked in by a malfunctioning MRI machine
- Bobby has a vending machine coil go through his eye (these deaths are basically back to back)

I saw those spoilers too, looked pretty bad effects wise. And a lot of people were saying that this movie was basically a comedy. Specially the deaths.
A third and 4th spoiler I saw was

Blonde lady being crushed by garbage truck compactor and it looked ridiculous.

4th spoiler was a ridiculous looking train in the middle of a neighborhood coming off the tracks and sending a bunch of wood logs out to crush two people, looked really silly.
