MARSHMALLOW gets a solid recommendation from me. Some excellent summer camp/FRIDAY THE 13TH vibes with a STRANGER THINGS/GOONIES flavor. Flirts with slasher tropes, but is actually something quite different when everything is revealed. Go in knowing as little as possible.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is a fine summer slasher with a much nastier bite than it's 90's predecessors. While it's characters pale in comparison to the original (which really stand out in recent viewings as being so well-rounded, well-written, real characters), the kills are nice, there are some fun call-backs (including a great gag about the original film's sequel as well as one of the best uses of a returning character in a legacy sequel), and it's a sleek, funny when it needs to be, tense when it should be slasher whodunit.

And that would be my review up until the third act of the film. IKWYDLS25 does some of the most surprising big swings ever seen in the modern landscape of the legacy sequel. I'm honestly shocked the studio even entertained this direction, let alone let the filmmakers go full steam ahead with it. This film does and says things about the current trend of legacy sequels that honestly kind of made me love it a little.

Go in for a fun, bloody ride and strap in for a bonkers final act that takes some real balls to pull off as well as they do, IMO.

Finally saw 28 Years Later over the weekend and enjoyed it for the most part. It's been a hot minute since I've seen a Danny Boyle movie and, boy, the man certainly has a signature style! Loved Ralph Fiennes in it and really enjoyed the story. The ending worked for me;
I think it made sense to close the loop on Jimmy and I thought the Power Rangers reference tied nicely to Spike leaving behind the action figure early in the movie.

Stay tuned for more takes on movies at the end of their theatrical run! Parenthood!

Together is an above average body horror adventure. Franco and Bri have some great chemistry together given their real life bond, there's a few outstanding scenes, the score is very harrowing and the idea is great on paper. That said the execution just feels slightly off the mark. My biggest issue is that I think playing it more straight faced would have made the film turn out better. There's a specific scene that feels like it's heading to a place of horror masterclass yet it's cut short and the tone shifts so drastically it was very underwhelming, personally.

Not my favorite of the year but would definitely recommend checking it out.

Bring Her Back is well worth watching. It's pretty intense at parts but good if you like the A24 films.

WEAPONS is pretty terrific, and basically everything I was hoping for from Zach Cregger's follow-up to BARBARIAN.
There is a climactic act of violence that is so jaw-dropping and audacious in its concept that I would have applauded if Cregger was in attendance.

It's Murdy catnip. The setting, the Ireland, the opportunity to rub elbows with a high-profile director.

I stand by that it's wildly coincidental that Orlando put out The Darkest Deal just a couple years before Sinners. Again, I want to stress extremely coincidental, but there are some clear parallel vibes.

I thought Weapons was just OK.

Well written, but was not a fan of the editing. Became a bit too of a chore in the middle.

But I did love the climax.
