I finally got to ride it during the event on Saturday evening. The queue looked very nice - very modern, very sciencey. I did notice that the, uh... thing in the center of the room (sorry, don't know what it's supposed to be) had a ramp on the second floor of the queue leading over to it. I started daydreaming that there could be, like, live actors interacting with the thing. But then I figured it was just so it could be accessed and repaired if anything broke.
I've said this in another thread, but I became a fan of the Hulk through the coaster and the old queue video. So the utter lack of anything really Hulk-ish was a bummer. The cartoon may have taken a lot of animation shortcuts, but I think it gave a good summary of the characters (Hulk,Betty, Bruce, Thunderbolt), the backstory, and what was happening presently. It showed the Hulk saving a kid, for example.
What's in the queue now is the visual equivalent of technobabble. Shiny, slick looking, seemingly important stuff happening on a few screens with instruments and readings, but it's all meaningless. I was curious as to why regular people were being tested with gamma rays, like that kid who wouldn't stop taking selfies. They never tell us why.
Okay, so, gamma tube. Very bright in there. I didn't mind the new effects, but I did miss Banner screaming. I used to get chills at that, it was so perfect, the NOOOOOOO into the launch. And I know now there is a Hulk roar that emits from the tube after the launch, but I couldn't hear it on the ride. I was also unable to hear the onboard audio, so it didn't add a thing for me. Ride felt a bit smoother, my brain didn't feel like it was rattling around in my skull.
So, yeah, visually the new queue is great! I love the new Hulk sign/statue, although I miss the old Kubert mural. Did they sell that thing in the prop shop, by any chance? Storywise, the thing is lacking, but I know that's less important to some than it is for me. So, overall, happy to have the attraction back, just feeling like a wee bit is lacking.
And, one last point, I was happy to see the old project gamma logo still in those metal plates on the floor of the queue. In my erstwhile youth I loved the Hulk so much I wanted a tattoo to symbolize him, but I think tattoos of actual characters are tacky. So I got a small tattoo of that logo. It's on my back and usually covered up, but it made me happy to see they hadn't removed the logo entirely.
TL;DR welcome back Hulk!
