To me a scare isn't effective if someone pops out from the other side of a room. This house feels like a tent house in that it's compact in its design, combined with being in a soundstage makes thos house feel super long. This compact design puts most of the scares within a foot or two of you which give that startle of coming out of nowhere and the unsettling nature of your personal space being violated. Also this must be staffed with some hhn veterans because a lot of them do great work with double scares and scaring off trigger. Also a lot of the actors have 2 or more boo holes so this makes it feel like there are more actors inside which gives that unrelenting feel. It all just comes together to put you on edge and provides very effective scares.

All this. I have no love for the IP, didn't remember (or maybe never saw) at least half the scenes in here, but a perfectly designed house. Tight turns, clever hiding spaces, also quick re-sets (a problem in the other houses this year). A master class in house design, any vaguely creepy IP could work in here.

I did my 20th run of this house last night and I STILL got scared a few times. This is an all timer for me.

Y’all weren’t kidding. More thoughts in a review after I fly home, but this one’s relentless. Best of the year and it isn’t especially close.

I just love that the (near) unanimous best house this year is the returning IP most fans were down on.

I noticed that, too.

(And as an aside, it’s also the one that’s straightforward as a haunt. No deep lore, no crazy sets, etc).

The movies are mid to upper-mid on their best night...but this house genuinely rips. I don't typically get a lot of scares in houses...maybe it's my face, timing, or my wife in front of me? who's to say.

BUT this house gets everyone. I watched the group in front, us, and the group behind me just get terrorized last night around 12:30. the multiple boo holes especially towards the back 1/3 of the house are just incredible. Super high on my list.

Also got in line for "60" and was in the house within 30 minutes - no express.

I think there were a few factors driving the lack of pre-event enthusiasm — The Red Door wasn’t especially well received (commercially did quite well, but no one is saying it’s their favorite), the copy/framing made it sound like they were just shrugging in terms of how this would differ from the 2015 iteration, and, personally, I felt that 2015 house was just okay.

The design here in terms of layout/scare placement is excellent, and it’s paired with casts who go full tilt every set. Very fortunate that this house received these actors.

This house feels like what Hill House would’ve been if not for the curtains/Covid precautions.

Same, and with this year having another IP that fans were down on is also pretty darn stellar as well. It's like you can't judge a house based on its IP or somethin'...

I'll admit I had high hopes for this one since A&D has shown time and time again they know how to do a scary ghost house. They showed it to me with Graveyard Games, and Haunting of Hill House had all the right makings, just unfortunate timing with the restrictions, and most recently, The Darkest Deal. And the Insidious franchise is honestly well made to be a house.

The end result did NOT disappoint one bit, it has the atmosphere, it has the plethora of scares baked into it, and it has the casts who're friggin' relentless. Seriously, they're making great use of the double and triple scares they have. And I saw one of the brides in black give an all-timer of a scare to a woman in a wheelchair, nobody is safe in this house! Every run I had was intense, both for me and those in front and behind me, and I could feel a serious adrenaline rush at times through this house.

Hat's off to the designers and the casts, this was one of the most consistently wild houses I've been through in the 6 years I've attended.

For me I always had a feeling this would be the Exorcist Believer type house of the year but I still couldn’t get hyped for it because I just simply don’t really care for this IP and don’t really think it needed to come back. Obviously very happy my feeling turned out to be correct and we’ve got an all timer house on our hands here but it doesn’t really change my feelings on the IP itself and whether it needed a third go in the past eight or so events.

Our trip is over, and this finished at 5th on my list.

I want to preface this by saying I really enjoyed the house - there's just a bunch of really good ones this year!

Unfortunately, i just simply do not get scared in these houses. My focus is always on sets, costumes, effects, etc. There are rare occasions where a jump scare will catch me off guard, but again, rare.

With all that said, the entire package of the house was not enough for it to hit for me like some others did. Probably fell victim to the hype HOPING that this would be a house to finally scare me - but it just wasn't.

Insidious 1 remains one of the most effective horror movies I've ever seen, and most of the big slasher names don't scare me at all.

This house just reminds me how using "Tiptoe through the Tulips" was a stroke of genius in that film. Hearing it in the hallway unnerves me like few things ever have.

This house is crazy intense, and you can't predict where the jumps are coming from due to some clever usage of mirrors to give impression of empty space. I had the most unfortunate timing and was the target of almost every scare the house has to offer, didn't help the rest of my party were so scared they speed walked far ahead and left me on my own.

Out of the 7 scare mazes I went in, this was by far the most anxiety inducing!

Fun from our UTH tour:

Our guide had us feel the hallway with red curtains to count how many boo holes there were. And then told us that there are only 2, max 3 scarers in that hallway. So if they find someone they like, they can just follow them for an excruciatingly long time. Still a creepy house even with all the lights on

Yeah, I think that's another testament to just how much energy the actors are bringing in this house. This was far and away my favorite house of the event on both coasts. While that's primarily because of the scares, the creative team in Orlando did such a wonderful job capturing the "spirit" of The Further, from visuals to sound design. An absolute home run.

I just gotta say, 11 runs of this house and it still gets me EVERY time. Genuinely amazing.

Another great thing about the house I've noticed is that there's a particularly... surreal (pun intended) vibe. I don't know what exactly it is, but there's something about the house that does a great job of giving you a weird out-of-body experience, like you're really wandering off into a purgatory.

I hate to be “that guy”, but this house didn’t do it for me. Didn’t find it that scary, and felt quite empty at times. I’ll caveat this by saying have only done it twice, and may have hit cast change, but I found other houses this year scarier than this one. As a fan of the franchise it’s disappointing for me to say that. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky and had two bad runs, and hoping for better experiences on my remaining nights

BAN?!

Kidding aside, I can understand this. The house relies entirely on the actors to make the experience; and if you're missing the scare (or they aren't firing on all cylinders), it doesn't hit the hype.

I will admit, the woman with the iron at the beginning of the house gets me every time, but it feels a bit bland after that from my experience. Here’s hoping for a better run tonight!
