I also like the tree because it looks like the Ultrasaur is grabbing a leaf and eating it. It was always kind of funny because you just saw this big neck rise up.

Very true, never even thought about that!

I had a strange dream that all of the stegosauruses in the first scene had their necks and heads replaced with massive peacock feathers that would rub against the faces of the riders at one point. It looked super creepy and weird. I should probably watch what I consume before going to sleep.

Hey everyone! I went to USH yesterday with some friends. That was Jan. 2 2015. The whole morning, the ride closed.

At first, I thought it was closed for refurbishment, but it opened to park guests again at around noon. I'm about 50/50 on the ride either having problems with the first few guests or just a routine testing.

Could this be a sign of the ride having a major refurbishment in the later future? I'm thinking that might be the case. I'm was really hoping so because the anamatronics look like ass now. Anyone at the park yesterday visiting or working can confirm this? If not, what are your thoughts?

Just an off day for the ride, it's actually pretty reliable.

But I agree that it needs a major refurbishment and reimagining, which probably won't happen until the new Mummy movies come out.

I don't think the ride being closed for the morning necessarily points toward a major refurb. Things could change as we approach the release of Jurassic World, but now that the off-season has returned once again, expect them to do touch-ups on some of the dinos at the least.

Your probably right about Jurassic World. I'd be perfect timing. All I know is that they better finish it before Harry Potter opens. One attraction closed will be doomsday for wait times.

Jurassic Park 3 didn't do all that great at the box office, but they still made some sort of an addition to the area (being the Spinosaurus statue and the water jets that blast you in the Splash Zone). With all of the hype that Jurassic World is getting, they've gotta have something planned.

Well, hopefully.

It could have been a budget cut.

Cold morning equals low ridership at one of the most,  if not the most, expensive rides to operate in the park.   So keep the ride closed and save operating costs until it gets a little warmer outside.

During HHN I remember they had a food stand in the queue of jurassic park in the dark. Could do that again if they determine that there is increased attendance due to the movie. Although I don't think it would be that expensive for them to alternate the Grant/Sattler outfits that staff wear to maybe the Owen outfit from Jurassic World.

Well to be honest while in comparison to the others JP3 didn't do great but it was still actually a huge hit. Adjusted for inflation properly JP3 grossed 285m Domestically. Which would make it the 3rd highest grossing movie of 2014.

No, I meant a 285m dollar gross is higher than all but 2 movies in 2014.

JP3 sold 32m tickets

For fun lets take a look. This year the top 12 films in the country sold this many tickets.

1) Guardians 41m

2) Mocking Jay 40m

3) Lego 32m

4) Captain America 31m

5) Trans4mers 30m

6) Maleficent 29m

7) X-Men 28m

8) Hobbit 27m

9) Big Hero 6 26m

10) Dawn of the Apes 26m

11) Amazing Spider-Man 2 24m

12) Godzilla 24m

Jurassic Park 3 was a big hit but a disappointment no doubt and a terrible movie for the most part. Its just JP was MASSIVE and TLW was huge.

Jurassic Park sold 86m tickets in its first run. WOW

The Lost World sold 50m still 9m more than the biggest movie of 2014.

I think no refurb will be done... It's January and the movie opens in 6 months. We are stuck with this lackluster version of the ride. Such a shame. A huge influx of people will be coming to the park because of the movie. Unless Universal gives us a late Christmas present...

^Its possible. They could conceivably close late Summer (Late Aug/Sep) and have JP 2.0 done in time for Potter. It would give guests incentive to visit the lower lot.

Well the lower lot is home to three rides so I don't see why they would not want to...? But I found when I went to USH, that it was Simpsons that had the longest line. JP was a walk on... also forgot for a while there but put the better pics for the promo JP ride item I had up now.

Conceivably, yes. Practically? They wouldn't risk extended refurb until weather turns cooler in October. I've seen short refurb (1-2 weeks) in fall before, but typically the extended refurb is this time of year, post Grinchmas but pre spring break.

Closing Jurassic Park in those months is not that wise, and I don't think they'd risk that. I can MAYBE see them doing that only because more focus will be on Springfield and F&F, but I just don't see it happening. I'll still cross my fingers, but pity Universal didn't plan this in advance. Would've been one hell of a promotion. Hopefully they at least do something afterwards.
