I get that they are trying to recreate the magic of the original film in this trailer (the awe of seeing the gentle creatures for the first time, being terrified when we first saw the "mean" ones, the uncertainty of it all). But maybe switch the plot up a little? If not, I could just rewatch the original.

Interestingly, I don't think that's what they are going for.

From the Director, Colin Treverrow:

"What if, despite previous disasters, they built a new biological preserve where you could see dinosaurs walk the earth…and what if people were already kind of over it? We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass. For us, that image captured the way much of the audience feels about the movies themselves. “We’ve seen CG dinosaurs. What else you got?” Next year, you’ll see our answer."

So, this scene was filmed in New Orleans?

I love the Oakley shop and the Buffet's Margaritaville in these shots.

Most likely. I know they filmed some at the Audobon Zoo so.

I doubt that had much to do with anything considering that's only coming out in 30 theaters

Well, fingers crossed. I will take the director's word for it. But as far as trailers go, this one painted a different story.

I don't think it matters...the hype will be there for Episode VII, who's seen the trailer, who hasn't, who leaked it, where can they download it, etc.

Ehhh disagree about the Star Wars thing as it wasn't as hyped as Jurassic World was with the launch of those two promotional sites then the teaser now this plus Thanksgiving game promo. Universal is not even remotely scared of Disney or Star Wars with this film.

So you're saying Jurassic World is going to be a bigger hit than Star Wars?

I mean, they were still releasing it a day earlier. Not a big deal, really.

Never said bigger hit. You said Uni pushed it up because of Star Wars which as people have said is only in 30 theatres and I have yet to see people clamoring over a trailer as much as I have for Jurassic World where people booed Skull Island at Comic-con because they thought they were going to get a Jurassic World trailer. Add in all the promotional materials for Jurassic World. A measly 2 minute trailer for Star Wars is not bond to take attention away from Jurassic World.

The only thing that put me off a bit was showing the "new" monster fish. I would rather they just hint at it in the trailer.

Shots like the snorting dark shadow over the younger boy is the kind of thing that really gets me excited and harks of the original.

CGI is NEVER completed for trailers. What you're seeing is still a rough finish.

As for the story, I'm not sure how a JP fan can be disappointed in "Dinosaurs run amok", but hey.

I've seen plenty of trailers with "finished" CGI.......it's part of the reason that some trailers have got me to go see the movie. Although I am still anticipating seeing this movie.....this trailer did nothing to get me more excited about it......especially the CGI.

Thank goodness the IMDB lists have finally been fleshed out. I wondered who did the visual effects this time around. Historically, I was pleased to see that ILM is in the lead on this project. Then I saw mixed in VFX Northern California.

So, I searched the goog VFX NC and found a number of alarming yet understandable news articles about the visual effects biz and its decline in California. While this isn't that particular article, I read another that stated that visual effects professionals in China (using the same software) are paid $500.00 per month!

So read this if you are so inclined. While the VFX biz seems a romantic endeavor, much like working for UC or Imagineering, there is more to the story that one should consider. Fascinating.

For the first trailer, you've never seen finished CGI. CGI is worked on until the movie is shipped out.

So, you will concede that some of those CGI effects were a bit shallow of depth in this trailer. Hell, I was thinking, "where is James Cameron" as he would pound those shots into real space (albeit for an additional 180 million) but hey.

Of course. It's a first trailer. Guardians of the Galaxy had a TON of effects missing/not detailed in its first trailer, for a recent example. Not to mention some of the shots in this trailer aren't even in the film. The gates in the movie aren't CGI like in the trailer. They're a physical set. That shot was just thrown together for the trailer.

There's still 7 months until the movie comes out. I'll worry when it still looks unpolished then

Hopefully Blizzard realizes to make sure CGI is done to avoid internet backlash for Warcraft over CGI and whoever is directing Skull Island.

Wow, how do you know this? If the gates are real then a section of the monorail must be real too? I am surprised that you are a bit of a fan of JP!
