Well I would consider a 14% increase in attendance pretty damn good. Maybe not on your planet.

"Robot warriors and yellow cartoon characters may have propelled Orlando's Universal Studios theme park to a 14.1 percent increase in attendance last year, according to a closely watched industry report.

"The opening this year of Transformers: The Ride 3-D at Universal Studios Florida pushed attendance up significantly," said Brian Sands, vice president of economics and planning for AECOM, a market-research company.

Sands also credited the park's new Springfield area, based on "The Simpsons" animated television series, for the increase. Universal Studios had 7.1 million visitors in 2013, up from 6.2 million in 2012, the report estimated.

Attendance numbers increased for the year after its opening is the way that I heard it from skubersky I believe. It remains a popular attraction today even if the merch might not be selling well.

Exactly. And since the areas were only open for less than 7 months of the year, the percentage increase they contributed during those 7 months was even much higher.

The article also cites a drop of 5% over at SeaWorld for the same time period. That suggests shifting of which park to attend in guests who were "going to Orlando anyways" so to speak. Also, Disney parks often see a 2-4% (or more) growth for doing essentially nothing.

The change is essentially a million visitors. 14% sound amazing, but then consider that is about 3000 guest a day. A change of 14% at Epcot would be nearly 1000 more than that in guests per day and 14% at Magic Kingdom would be twice as many (6000). Considering that a 3-5% shift in those major-player parks in a year is far from unheard of with "doing absolutely nothing" i'm less compelled to think Transformers or Simpsons really did the park much good on it's own.

I think it's a bigger push for multi-day tickets in the marketing in the lead up to Diagon. Remember, Diagon publicity was in full force well before it opened. And people are kind of dumb.. there's always attendance spikes before something opens as people misinterpret the publicity to mean it's open now, go see it! Want to see it in action? Christmas Day Parade always leads to people in the MK wanting to see the parade that's "being filmed."

And to note, Mummy still vastly outperforms Diagon/Simpsons/Transformers on a given day..

That's something I still don't quite understand, even factoring in relative capacity.

Disney is what it is but that is not what you were talking about. You made a challenge about Universal attendance that has been proven untrue. Transformers did make a difference. Stay on subject, don't change it to cover your shortcomings and apparent lack of knowledge of the facts.

I'm saying that there are other factors besides the opening of Transformers.

If that attendance relates to Transformers why isn't there more people RIDING Transformers, eh?

What exactly are you trying to prove/say? I mean numbers speak for themselves. don't be that person who just make claims with no significant backing.

See what i'm saying about "how's there supposed to be an outside portion?" Those are real-size vehicles, there's not much room there.

Simpsons, construction of Diagon, Cinematic, Parade. They are all part and parcel. It is and has been what Universal/Comcast is shooting for. Part of the plan.

Good lord you are such a sassy lassy, think about the fact that TF was once nothing and in over a year they turned an abandoned soundstage into one of the best dark rides ever that made the resort soar in attendance. TF whenever you like it or not, is a feat. Just stop trying to argue with facts and look forward to kong for no other reason than it's a brand new ride at a theme park, how cool is that?!?! Fun times in store man, life is good, kumbaya!!!!

MK is what pulls people to EPCOT, DHS and AK. Who has ever said, hey we are going to Orlando for DHS or AK??? MK can open a Frozen meet and greet and the other three will see a spike in attendance just because of that. So you cant compare their attendance, its a different model. My data is only anecdotal, but everyone I know takes there family to Disney for the MK, the other parks are a ancillary for most part (again anecdotal). That is why the 5 day free tickets are gold for Disney. If you are taking a family and only wanted to see 2-3 parks, its hard to not just get the 5 day because its such a value (I know because I go though the numbers every year :) )

Transformers was a stop gap for Universal to get to DA. Disney could close an entire attraction (or section for that matter) and would hardly miss a beat. Universal does not have that luxury. So Jaws go down, and what do they do, fast track an E-ticket ride. It might not be the absolute best ride in the park, but as a replacement for Jaws until DA opens, pretty good stuff. And a ride that will endure for years to come.

As for the Simpsons, I have always thought they got into them about 4-5 years late, but even still, that area is more vibrant and is shelling out more food and souvenirs than its predecessor (and I loved BttF).

All that being said, the actual data shows that both have been successful. Not only in attendance but in food and merchandise.
