Been wondering, but when is it most likely we will have Nintendoland? If Disaster is indeed closing soon, does that mean we will have F&F first and then they'll do Nintendoland? Or will they work these projects together? At this rate, all construction crews in the world will be busy on Universal stuff :)

Nintendoland will probably pick up as Volcano Bay wraps up.

That seems like to me. I feel like Nintendo, construction wise, will pick up steam late next year.

I don't know if trackless can have any real speed to it so I'm not sure it could work for Mario Kart. Having done Ratatouille, Pooh's Hunny Hunt, Aquatopia, and Antarctica, they all kinda move at the same mild pace. Is a trackless thrill ride even possible with the tech?

I don't know if it's a dumb idea or just really simple to do, but Mario Kart just screams "Go-Karts" to me. But on a Universal level, like imagine being able to self drive go karts in a Spiderman/ Transformers 4D setting.

Driving Actual Go Karts would have just too many issues with safety. You might as well just make a giant bumper car arena.

Plus Go Karts are loud, smelly, and take up way too much space.

Nintendo execs. indicated Universal blew them away with their presentation. I would doubt any of the major attractions will be run of the mill types of rides. We need to think & imagine higher level ride concepts.

They have electric go karts now that don't have the noise or fumes, but, yeah, so way they give that kind of control to the guests.

I can see the construction crew currently working on the hotel will move to the Disaster/Furious site and Twister/Jimmy site when they have finished and maybe have some of them do preliminary NintentdoLand work. Then, the crew working on the Volcano Bay will be the main one working on the NintendoLand.

I've heard it mentioned before on these forums that Universal likes to keep the same companies working on their projects continuously because its cheaper than moving them offsite and then a new crew onsite. Is that correct @Teebin ?

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has unfortunately passed away at the age of 55. Guy is a total legend, and was one of the driving factors behind the Wii. It's rare to see a gaming CEO come from a boots-on-the-ground development background, and Iwata had many accomplishments such as compressing the Kanto region to fit into Pokemon Gold and Silver (still one of the greatest "plot twists" in any game), and performing major programming work on games such as Earthbound. I honestly don't see where the company goes from here - the void left by Iwata is massive. Condolences and best of luck to everyone involved at Nintendo.

Before anyone asks, it is way way way too soon to talk about impact with the Universal deal.

Please keep it respectful.

Forgive me, but is he the same guy everyone has been raving about since Nintento was announced? I think someone here quotes that person in their sig but I cannot remember who.

No, that's Miyamoto, creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, etc.

This loss is incredibly saddening. Iwata was a legend and by all accounts a great person generally.

Hopefully this agreement continues and Nintendoland will stand as a monument to Iwata

Damn, tragic loss. So sudden too, I know he didn't attend E3 in person but I think think he attended an investor meeting in Japan that took place right afterwards. Seemed like an all around good guy.

A cool top 10 list about things people may not know about Iwata: A Great Man: 10 Things You Might Not Know About Satoru Iwata

2 that stood out to me:
  • He could write code extremely fast
in 1998 Iwata was able to write the entirety of the combat code in Pokemon Stadium over the course of a week... by himself
  • He was willing to take a pay cut for the greater good. Iwata's on-screen personality was vibrant and lovable, but he was equally as astounding of a person when off-camera. In 2014 when Nintendo faced financial hardship, he took a 50% pay cut to help the company during hard times. This played a part in Nintendo rebounding to stability during late 2014/early 2015.

Mario Kart, with screens.... as the road....

I know Uni isn't going to shy away from screens anytime soon, but count me as someone who'd love to see another ride like ET, Cat in the hat or MIB. Having just been to the park with express, going from ride to ride and screen after screen, everything starts to feel like it's the same. And if someone in your family or group isn't feeling well/has motion sickness (as my brother wasn't our first day), then might as well forget going to the parks at all because there's very little for them to do otherwise.

Nintendo is a property where they have a chance to do something special, but also at least one major E, imo for the whole family.

I love Uni and they do leave you with an adrenaline high, but their parks frustrate me so much because between Spider-Man, TF, FJ, Gringotts, DM, and Simpsons - Six Headliners - the parks have A LOT of motion simulation/3D based rides. At least USF. Soon we'll be able to add Kong to the list too, then Fallon, and i'm sure F&F, etc, etc, etc. When does the time come where somebody finally says "Let's try something new"?

I take it you agree then if that's your best response you can give? Please enlighten me, when are we going to see beyond simulators and 3D anywhere in the near future?

Sure, nextgen attractions and attractions portraying certain IPs are made better with screens, i'm not arguing that. But the parks need rides where you can just calm down. Everything is so fast-paced right now and pacing is very important in a theme park. While the high energy/high adrenaline rides are the draws, there needs to be some rides where people can just sit and relax.

A park like USF or IOA could really benefit from at least one omnimover styled attraction. Is it an old ride system? Yep. Does it get the job done and still be an E-caliber attraction if executed properly? You bet.

There's literally nothing I want to do less than have another [HASHTAG]#SCREEEEENZ[/HASHTAG] discusion. I'd rather buy an AP to DHS only. I'd rather be forced to have Antarctica be the only ride I can ride for the rest of my life.

There's literally nothing else to be said on the matter. It irks some people. It doesn't bother others. End of story.
