Universal's exclusivity contract for Kuka based ride systems runs through 2019 or 2020 I believe. Pretty sure the only kind of kuka arm system any company can use is for effects or the standard robocoaster arm like you see in Legoland or shopping malls.

And fwiw Avatar and several more of Disney's major projects will be utilizing new ride systems and heavily reliant on screens and simulation. Gonna be an interesting decade going forward.

I'd like to see another FJ type ride. It's too good for there to just be one of that classification.

Weeeeeeell!!! I can't say much of anything except that a company is working on building a major attraction using exactly that same technology as they believe they have found a loophole in building it super-sized and using the larger Kuka robots. As a matter of fact, it sounds like KUKA is working with them on it. Go figure. ;)

I'd like to see another one, but just one. I don't want it to be like the Spider-Man Ride system where we now have one direct copy of it basically in TF and a similar ride system in Gringotts (although Gringotts is at least a new and cool system that just uses elements of Spider-Man).

So... maybe this can be what the rumored Avengers e-ticket is? Because oh man, that could be really cool. Especially if they could pull some of the strings to use the actual MCU likenesses in the ride.

You've captured my attention... Thinking of the possibility of attaching a coaster car the size of the Spidey to the end of one of these.

Oh yeah, when I heard about it, I was wondering how wide and large the track pipe would need to be. And the wheels, are they going to be made out of, unobtainium?

I don't think the kuka ride system needs to be in anymore rides at universal. It would cause people to compare it to FJ and it just makes FJ less special. Ride systems should be exclusive to one ride IMO

I think that is debatable. I mean, how many casual guests even understand the FJ ride system? Most of the people I know who have gone had no idea how it was pulled off.

To add to the discussion, if utilized in a different manner (Kuka on a drop tower for instance) would guests even realize that they are on the same style of ride? I have to imagine with a slightly different usage of the same tech, no one would be comparing the two. I never hear people compare Spider-Man or Transformers to Gringott's.

Maybe not all ride systems, but the special ones I agree on. Which is why I don't love that Transformers and Gringots are similar if not identical to Spider-man.

Gringotts is different than Spiderman...it is not the SCOOP design..

It's not the same, but it uses elements Spider-Man. Mostly in the simulation of speed.

You can't deny that Gringotts is still fairly similar, despite being a coaster though.

The only simulation is the drop. All the speed comes from the coaster.

Yes, there are two big coaster parts, but there's the simulation part you mention that tries to make you feel like you're falling. Obviously no real movement, but it's the same type of thing as Spider-Man.

It may be a minor part of the ride, but I hear people come off the ride a lot and are like "That was cool! It was like a combination of Mummy and Transformers!" or something like that. Not that that's bad, but it's almost like Gringotts was a greatest hits ride for UC. Lets throw the best of all technologies we've got into one ride. Sure it turns out to be really cool, but it still brings comparisons because of the aspects used based on those other rides. I'm not trying to be that critical, just pointing something out about the ride and UC in general.

I think they are different, but I see how someone could compare..

For this thread though I think it may be better to speculate on what we think the differences of Sorin to the main Avatar ride will be

Also, do we think the boat ride will be like 'The Land' or will it include new tech?

I think both will include new tech. I'm expecting the main ride to have a much better range of movement than Soarin' and really just a lot more advanced and themed all around.

Disney filed a permit for new tech for a boat ride a few years ago so there's a chance we see that used, although I think we'll see it used in Shanghai's Pirates first. I honestly think the boat ride is going to be the sleeper hit of this expansion. I haven't heard one bad thing about it so far or anything that would make me think it would be something as simple as Living with the Land.
