It's still super dumb that they spent nearly a billion on an Avatar land.

Heck, I liked the movie, am really looking forward to the land and question the IP's land power.

The only problem I have with the poll is Star Wars will always win out....BUTTTTT.... TSL having a good sized lead is also very telling. Still, a little flawed.

I have to wonder what the reception would be like if this was a land based around Jungle Book, a mix of the live action and old-school cartoon. I feel like there'd be a lot more mainstream hype behind it.

Don't want to derail the thread too much, but it never made sense as to why Disney never had a larger Jungle Book presence at AK.

I think Potter has changed everything that a new land has to be. I think Avatar will be the most visually striking land that we've ever seen and will will make trips to the land worthwhile without even having to ride anything.

Potter affected this land so much that Imagineers were told to run wild and instead of budget cuts Disney threw more money at it.

They know own Pandora can not afford to fail

Disney will have to sell a heck of a lot "Pandora Blue Beer" drinks to pay that budget off.

The idea that more money was spent because they thought it would "fail" is ludicrous. It's a Disney theme park land. It has about as much chance of failing as Stephen Hawking does at high school physics.

As I stated before, I'm actually looking forward to this land. I enjoyed the Avatar movie, but I'm not a fanatic about it. I don't even know if I would watch one of the sequels. That said, as BriMan hinted at, a Jungle Book themed land probably makes more sense and would be easier to market. Of course, Disney's Marketing is so good, they could market feces and people would buy it. Indeed, they already did that.

I'm looking forward to the land because it'll be a good theme park land.

I'd be chomping at the bit for it and ready to spend a ton of money if I gave even a miniscule amount of crap about Avatar. That AA, if it is an AA, looks great! The land will look cool at night! But I don't care. It's not something I want or need to see brought into real life. It's a boring, clichéd film. I don't care about seeing blue alien sex kitten AAs. If it was a Baloo the Bear AA? Hell, I'd be in line day one. A Simba AA? When can I book my flights?

*sigh*

At least the rides should be pretty good.

I really don't see this as an IP that people will hold dear to them for years to come. But if its an immersive land and quality rides I won't complain

What forums have you been reading? I have read so many "anti-Avatar" posts online, I could probably write a Thesis.
I'm not referring to just this forum by the way.

Honestly, I've never read "Avatar will be bad". I've mostly seen "Avatar is a dumb thing to base a huge, billion-dollar land off of"

i hardly take what theme park fans say as how the general public will view things
if that were the case
1. Star Bucks has been universally boo ed on theme park sites yet its a 30 min wait at the star bucks on main st
2. Frozen even more so killed on theme park boards but the waits and rider views will be through the roof

A new ride with garbage capacity will have high waits. Yes.

Keep in mind even general Disney fans have questioned this IP. I don't really know a single person who has said, "Wow, that is cool that they picked Avatar". So I totally agree with everyone here that the IP picked was a poor choice. I do think however this will be a very successful land, it will be awesome to see, the rides will great, etc. But should they have gone with a different IP? Yes.

But what are they whining about? The IP selection (doubt it) or where it was placed? Because where it is placed is the big issue everyone has. It is a low capacity ride that already had decent lines and popularity. It would have been better to make new ride than replace an already liked ride. It also would have been better to pick a ride with WAY better capacity. I think you think any negative comment means people think something won't be popular. Outside of JungleSkip no one on here has even thought this won't be insanely popular. And JungleSkip just thinks the popularity is slowly declining. He still thinks there will be long waits.

I agree 100%. I post on a movie website a lot too, and whenever Avatar land gets talked about everyone's response is always, "Wow they actually went through with that!? Why?"
