It's doing rather nicely actually with Rotten Tomatoes at 85 percent in critics so-far, making it I think Illumination's highest scored (I can be wrong..).

Plus, it's already earned 31 million from international markets too, and it's expected to bring in 70 million domestically..

rest assured, it's going to make profit, although the marketing is what makes me curious of it's overall budget. So that leads me to wonder how much Universal wants so they can greenlight the ride..

Ok, I did my part and bought a Pets coffee mug today and will see the movie this weekend. I encourage anyone who wants this to come to Orlando to do the same.

Sorry. My pets don't drink coffee. :D

Seriously, I am looking forward to the movie and following the box office results. How did I ever get by before Box Office Mojo?

Alexandre Desplat's orchestral outing for SLoP has come out..and i'll say this.

It makes me really excited for the film and there are certain tracks within that I cannot wait to hear in the ride itself. It should also help liven the area if it is coming to Toon Lagoon; so there is that incentive too!

Indeed it is..

also in just a bit of the update on the takeover of SLoP for UOR; the carnival games throughout Toon Lagoon now has SLoP merchandise that you can win..now, if only someone could think of bringing something as crazy as a ride based off a IP that just came out earlier than Disney..

only if..

SLoP comes out on Friday so Universal will soon have box office numbers in addition to in and out of park merchandise numbers. Hopefully they are good enough to get started on the ride. Since they have devoted so much space to the merchandise it make sense that the ride is going in Toon Lagoon.

Anyone know if the merchandise is selling well or seen it selling?

Box Office Mojo is reporting a prediction of 85 million for the SLoP US opening weekend. There's plenty of great information and comparisons to other animated films in the article. One point in its favor is it will opening on the most screens of any animated film in history.

I worry they may have overdone it if the film isn't really great.

Like it has to be really really good to justify the things they've already set in motion. It has taken over even retail at Petsmart.

The film is good, not great. My quick post-screening Twitter thoughts:

Fun, cute, breezy, and a perfectly pleasant way to spend an evening in the theater. Anything beyond that? No. It's one of those movies you enjoy the hell out of while watching but don't think much about after. In that way, it's very flavor of the month animation. That said? Illumination has really nailed down their physical comedy sensibility. They're essentially the new Looney Tunes.

I'm a little disappointed with the script... I expected there to be much more of an emotional core and exploration of the dynamics between pets and owners, but it's all kind of left on the table for a meandering caper where not a lot really happens. Dug and Max feel chronically underdeveloped... in fact, Gidget (the female dog), Snowball, and Tiberius are far more interesting and entertaining to watch.

I would love a ride with these critters, though, ideally one that isn't a "and then things go horribly wrong!" plot. Of course, I'm sure we'll just end up chasing a gerbil around New York City (and into the sewers) in a madcap chase, or something.

Certainly not a celebration type scene or anything. That would be... predictable.

For me there are some tropes that are so prevalent in most theme park rides that I just accept them. Something goes wrong, celebration, etc.

I just sit back and enjoy the ride.

At this point, SLoP has to be contending as the worst kept secret in UC, right? I mean, besides Diagon, Kong and Transformers; it's getting there..
