Based on almost every video or personal experience watching the trucks on the outside loop, it seems difficult for them to get the truck to move 20 feet without stopping... so I'd assume pretty difficult. It's a complex series of systems.

Lots. The motors could not provide adequate control of the doors so it overshoots or undershoots sensors (wind, rain, weight, etc as factors). Plus they're just freaking giant sails. Maybe they don't open quick enough or close quick enough for the ride vehicles.

Anyway, thanks everyone for the support and information, I think a lot of guests became fans of Universal through Diagon and this project is their first new built. Lets all chill, wait, and celebrate when softs start hopefully very soon (please god by May 12th, please god.)

That video of the truck stopping on the track out range to face the doors and the doors opening as the truck stops is the issue I have been told is plaguing them. Too, the issues aren't often repeatable which makes finding a solution dicey I would think. But the later is only conjecture on my part.

Looked like a pretty abrupt stop, is that a sensor doing that or are they manually halting it?

I thought id be stronger to avoid the rumours but here I am.

As a personal note, I think spoilers relate to the plot of the ride more than the tech involved.

Hopefully he is wrong or misinformed. Just figured I would post it to see what you guys say.

I've been planning each of my days off around this ride. Was going to head to the parks Tuesday or Wednesday if softs were happening. Looks like it will hopefully be next week. I will literally drop everything and take the hour and a half ride. :bolt:

Already watched Peter Jacksons Kong to hold me over.

It might be either of those possibilities.

If the wait stretches on even more, you might need to dip even further into the Kong back catalogue...

Some are (much, much) better than others, but all are fun, to one degree or another. They should keep Kong fever at bay for a little while longer! Feel free to skip 1986's KING KONG LIVES, though - that's one of the worst movies of the 1980s!

Maybe we just need a dedicated soft opening watch thread? This thread has existed to discuss the overall project since it was just a rumor and is chock full of Spoilers if you want to go in to the experience blind.

Also, knowing a soft opening is happening is a spoiler if you go by that level of scrutiny. You're not supposed to know they're happening and they're not "official" in any sense.

As for rumors - execs being underwhelmed doesn't surprise me. But the talk of who was promised/shown what and at what point seems like WDI-level blame game BS that I've felt UC tended to avoid. It could be the fandom or it could be culture-creep since UC is full of many of the same people as WDI.

Regardless, what is being put out there as the anticipated experience isn't a thing the ride can live up to without fundamental modifications. It's hard to explain, but it's not because the ride is bad or poorly designed. It's like if the makers of vanilla ice cream were like "We're giving you earth shattering mind blowing better than sex Vah-Neel-LA!"

It's still bloody vanilla ice cream. I like it, many people like it, but months of hype don't make it anything other than vanilla ice cream.

And as to the rumored issues with doors and such... I stand by my earlier statement of what people may think are minor set decor items being integral to the show narrative as it is presented.

And maybe, and this is just a thought, if the exec ennui is that high perhaps the method of storytelling will actually change if the subtle way of doing things is more complicated than being in-your-face. Maybe we will get Vah-Neel-LA in the long run.

Just a thought but maybe the truck is suppose to stop there so the doors can open for a better "show". I mean, If your sitting in a massive truck with a top on it, seeing the doors open from the front is a lot harder to do than from the view where it stopped did. At least with that view, everybody can look to their right and see the doors opening up for them.

Overall though, this is a SUPER complex ride system. Possibly the most advanced in the world. Sure there are some trackless rides out there but nothing to this scale. We also don't know if there is any sort of motion platforms during the video portions of the ride. Between at least 1 AA, multiple video screens, massive moving parts (the doors and maybe others) and 5 massive trucks that do not have a driver or any track, this is a monster to program to run safely while at the same time triggering all show elements at the correct time.

Universal is no stranger to creating brand new ride technology to run their rides but that always comes with some learning curves and unexpected issues. Both HP rides were a first of their kind and both ran into some massive issues leading up to opening day but they did figure it out in time and they run smoothly now. Kong is no different. I honestly don't think softs will happen for a few weeks still. We hardly got any soft time with Gringots because they kept working on fixing it's issues right until opening day it seemed. The preview event for media and contest winners (USA Today is running one and maybe others) is not until the end of June. They still have almost 2 full months to work on this beast. They are not going to start softs until they are sure nearly everything is working the way they want and I don't think they are close to that point yet.

Perhaps that's it, but there is another video a few weeks back that it stopped so suddenly that it lurched forward hard. Peoples dentures would fall out on such a stop. My post was only to mention that the systems stopped unexpectedly on various RFID tags on test runs. Lastly, before this past two weeks.

I saw that video as well and even the new video it seems to stop suddenly. It seems to be a ride system issue overall I think. Normally on a standard ride, cars stop instantly when there is an issue but since the car is so small, the jarring effect is minor (think Mummy...jarring but not bad). However, when you have a MASSIVE truck, having an instant stop will cause the awful jarring effect we have seen. Just another side effect of having no drivers who can slow the truck to a stop over a couple seconds. Most likely the signal is going off to stop the truck for a show element or because it is going off track or getting to close to another truck and rather than stopping slowly, the wheels just lock in place and everything lurches forward.
