The walls will come down, the softs will start, the ride will open, people will ride, and then we will be here waiting for the next project with a large influx then a lull then a influx then construction then lull then the wait for softs...it's a sad depressing cycle.

It will be bittersweet when this ride actually opens.

Its not all that bad, especially considering that Hulk will probably open soon after Kong (by probably a month).

Personally, i'm curious if they'll post up that TM previews will start next week tomorrow morning, as it would make some sense in a way (not that i'm hoping for it or anything, but it could make sense that TM Previews start Tuesday and last to Thursday, with the first technical rehersal on the 10th).

If you think it's bad on the outside, imagine how it must be inside the building!

Nah, they will shoot the kid and then run over the body.

I think Teebin also said some of the 360 motion throws the sensors off. But well, at least it seems things are starting to work.

I don't think that was me as I have never heard such a thing. I might have suggested the steel structure that holds the screens probably helped with the problems plus the rebar in the rockwork. The entire attraction is a metal mesh monster.

No doubt, since the vehicles won't do what they want to anyway. You'd think somebody could figure out those problems by now. Or at least fix the Wi FI.

They have installed so many extra wifi antennas that the attraction has become a human microwave. So expect to feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside as you depart the attraction. :stun:

Seriously? I didn't do anything and he's allowed to paint me as the bad guy and lash out in a totally unprovoked personal attack? And you're going to allow it?

Plus let all the "likes" pile on his comment? That's not creating hostility and a mob mentality. Not at all. (Sarcasm - if you had any doubt.)

He's manipulative. He has always been manipulative. And for whatever reason I'm the target today and you're backing him up and feeding his ego. However, it's undeniable that I didn't do jack to warrant the reaction and this sort of treatment.

I agree, his comment towards you was completely out of the blue. I have been lurking these forums for years now, this has become a place where if you're not in the 'inner-circle' your opinion isn't worth much.

However if you blindly agree with the veterans here, kiss their ass and thank them for whatever piece of useless cryptic 'clue' they decide to drop for us peasants, you'll be just fine!

It's a shame really, I go way back to the Universal-excitement and IOACentral days. Those were fun communities.

I've said it a million times. Why rely so much on wifi and other wireless communication. How did none of the structural designers be like "umm I might have a few steel beams that are going scramble the hell out of your connection" haha

The payoff for true trackless is so minimal

Yes, I agree. I remember Teebin posting that UC had sworn off wifi & trackless due to all the problems and so few rewards. I wonder why they changed this stance for Kong, and possibly F&F too, unless initial plans have changed.

Exactly. I mean its not like this trackless system really even comes into play to make the rider that much more immersed? The outside loop is the only area a rider would even be able to notice.

I am a supporter in the fact that trackless does carry significant mechanical benefits in part reduction and wear. I just feel they went too far, they could of limited the tracking to pucks (which they do anyways for redundancy?!?) as the primary tracker. So many rides have high reliability with this method and its such a NFC type system that there are rarely range or connection issues.

But hey, I'm obviously still very hopeful and understand this is still in testing.

I'd be a huge hypocrite if i expected it to run flawlessly off the bat granted my own testing issue experiences =)

I'm still not convinced wifi is used for guiding the vehicles, just checking in to the ride control system. Wifi positioning does not have the accuracy needed. I think suggesting the building is a faraday cage, too, is over simplifying things. But I'm working off my knowledge of wifi, wifi positioning accuracy, and the tech used by the vendor.

Exactly, I have been thinking the same thing. They must have really over-estimated the whole wireless communication thing (be it wifi or whatever).

Of course the rfid readers weren't helpful either, but I believe sending that info is also wireless. The multi layered location confirmation has been an ordeal to unpack. To be clear, it is my understanding that the multiple safety backups is a Universal thing. Even Disney doesn't put themselves through so much hell.

No, I never said all of that. UC was disgusted with wifi after FJ and that's it, all I know. As Kong is trackless, it has to involve wireless, so I can only suppose that they became so giddy with the idea of VDL they said, "what the hell". They would prefer wired however.

Ooooooh... and I did ask about potential hacking of such systems... that was an interesting answer.

This. I would assume it's for vehicle status and location reporting for effect triggering, but not the navigation itself. WiFi positioning is not up to the task, especially with the environment this ride would be in. Coupled with all the steel, multipath reflections come into play as well. And if they're actually using 802.11 wifi, add a few 100 more devices to the mix with more than a few trying to act as AP's (cell phone AP's), further congesting the spectrum. I'd love to work on a project like this!!!
