I'm not talking about around here if that's what you are referring to.

Not at all.

Every thing I've seen on Twitter is pretty much "WTF Star Wars boat ride?"

Yeah, but that's Theme Park Twitter.

My point was the article talks about the ride like it's going to be amazing.

What is interesting about this rumor to me is that it shows that Avatar boat ride is using the new tech that before was believed to not be using the boat ride tech.

I've said all along that the Avatar boat ride would use the new tech.

How much does it differentiate from the current Small World/Pirates system?

Yes, and every time you do some people say no it doesn't. So while I thought based on the pictures we have seen you were right, I think this confirms it even more. I think a boat ride would be awful for SWL, but I am actually pretty excited about the Avatar one. Then again I do like Living with the Land boat ride too :)

Others in the know can correct me. But my understanding is that the water flow is not what would control the boats. You can actually stop and restart the boats and things like that. But I don't know how that is accomplished her anything like that. Where small world just floats along and the current takes it and unless there is a boat stopped in front of you, they can't stop an individual boat.

So basically an omnimover-system in water.

I dunno what you guys are talking about. A boat ride on Dagobah while Weird Al's "Yoda" plays would be perfect. :ears:

Also, having just ridden the updated Star Tours 2.0 with the SW7 scenes in it, I just have to say it's terrible. I know many disliked the new version, but I was of the opinion that it was good enough for having to represent the entire SW Universe in one ride. It did so set between Episodes 3 and 4. It's debatable how close they actually held to that, but nonetheless, it's obviously broken here. I do enjoy some new bits like Jar Jar getting run over by the vehicle, but overall, it just doesn't flow well, which I felt it did before adding these new scenes.

Here's the ride's opening crawl for context:

Episode III.V
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue

It has been a long time
since the end of the Clone
Wars, and the evil Sith Lord
Darth Vader continues to
tighten his grip on the
Empire as the galaxy moves
closer to the brink of a
great civil war.

A new intergalactic
spaceline, Star Tours,
seeks to preserve
unrestricted intergalactic
travel in this age of
tyranny. Freedom fighter
Captain Raymus Antilles
has assigned two droids,
See-Threepio and
Artoo-Detoo, to help launch
the spaceline, fueling
Imperial suspicion that Star
Tours is part of the Rebel
Alliance.

Star Tours is about to open
its first intergalactic space
terminal in the Earth
System as rumors of a
fearsome weapon of mass
destruction dash all hope
for peace and freedom in the
galaxy...

Not really. Because on an omnimover you can't stop just one car. With this boat system I believe they can stop and start an individual boat.

I thought the new Jakku and BB-8 scenes were fantastic, and was VERY pleasantly surprised that they took the initiative to make enhancements to some of the other scenes. Overall I think it's a big win if this means that we are actually going to get new scenes and enhancements every year with each new movie.

I predict that by Ep. IX, none of the scenes that debuted with Star Tours 2.0 will still be in use.

Why do you think they would get rid of them?

Because I think they'll try to eventually try to move the timeline into the trilogy they are doing now.

I think by the time SWL opens, we'll get an official "Version 3.0" if you will where the story will make sense that the new movies are included.

Right now, it makes no thematic sense to have them in the ride. Not that I mind seeing BB-8 or going through Jakku, but it makes no sense within the context of the ride.

That would be a foolish decision.

That's like throwing away a Shakespearean play because Shakespeare sold his lifework and the guy who bought it decided to make a sequel and try and wipe away anything prior to it as if it never existed.

Disney simply cannot do that, as much as they may wish. The original trilogy is too beloved.

I don't think they'll get rid of original or prequel era sequences, people really enjoy them, and I think Disney loves saying that they have x number of increasing ride combinations. I don't think your average Joe cares at all about the anachronisms, and honestly I don't think it really matters unless they're going to fold the ride into the official canon somehow, like introducing Star Tours into one of the movies. Even then, I don't think the average guest would care about the inconsistencies, much like they don't with the ones that the prequels caused. That said, I don't understand why they don't just introduce a time travel conceit to justify whatever scene you might show up in. Say you've hyperspaced through a solar flare or something. This is science fantasy, after all.

I know we've had this discussion before how if you overthink most theme park rides, they are all stupid and make no sense. Well, here we are. I doubt marketing cared about how this fits into the current timeline when they thought to add this to both parks so they have something new with Star Wars to advertise on both coasts.

Oh I know they didn't and they won't when they insert stuff for Episodes 8 and 9 either. After all of that, I expect a more firm version of the ride in place. I'm hoping for an opening scene with Kylo Ren soon actually instead of just Vader if we're gonna be expanding to the new films.
