I think this is the key point here, at the moment there seems to be people quick to blame Universal/Mack and other horrendous people blaming Kevin himself. The reality is of course that neither could be to blame, in the traditional sense.
I think it was important for the family to explain his independence at the presser, to counter some of the most judgemental comments that we know have been said. I also think its right to ask for transparency, there's not suggestion that Universal aren't being so, however the litigious nature of America works against that happening - and of course theres a possibility that Universal could be completely open and look totally insensitive. One thing that was clear from the presser is that Kevin was clearly part of this community and shared the same passion, that's important to remember when you see some of the most toxic elements of the community saying awful things.
I may have mentioned this already, but the reliance on a singular eyewitness statement is questionable, people fill in the gaps in their memory when they are under severe stress even if there were ten witnesses they would all have slightly different versions of what they saw - CCTV will cover that problem.
I was on Blue fire and Voltron all last week - the nature of the lap restraint stopped my head from going anywhere near the metal handle (which isnt on SDR), the seat in front or the bar on the train and that's clearly by design, a persons torso stops that and im tall and (relatively) slim, my bigger concern was falling backward and hitting the seat back
