I hate dashing hopes (and I think I said this before) but I think this is the extent of heroes that are getting representation:IMG_5571.jpeg
Wario & Waluigi (and other side characters like Pauline and Birdo) weren’t in the app datamine back in 2020. And with the characters still MIA, and the likes of Daisy, Rosalina, Toadette s l o w l y getting merch (two of which still lack a power band), I feel like this is the cut off. And heck, unless they resize this down-the-line for Rosalina and Toadette, this updated story image feels “complete”:
SNW_app_story_8_updated.png
We also have to remember these parks have to allocate merch space as well. The heroes plus the villains is already a LOT of merch.

But hey, anything can happen!

I think they may expand offerings down the line at some point, just not right now. If there's money to be made on Wario merchandise eventually (and they find space for items by phasing out stuff that doesn't move), I'm sure they'll give it a try sooner or later.

It's worth remembering that outside of Mario Party and Sports titles, Nintendo internally considers Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario as distinct properties/IPs/universes that happen to intersect occasionally. They chose to incorporate Mario and Yoshi into the core initial land, with Donkey Kong getting a sub land. Wario exists outside all that with his more modern and cynical WarioWare titles (and the zanier Warioland/Wario World titles, RIP). Birdo is just a niche character to begin with, and I say that as a fan. She also sort of exists on the fringe, being primarily associated with Yoshi but only rarely appearing in Yoshi-fronted titles.

As far as I'm aware, she's never appeared in any Yoshi-centric game that's been released. Her only connection to Yoshi is that she was brought back in Mario Tennis 64 as his doubles partner, and they were a pair in Mario Kart Double Dash. The only game she is significantly associated with is her debut in Super Mario Bros. 2, but she didn't really become prominent until her spin-off appearances, where there was an actual opportunity to develop her character and personality, similarly to Daisy.

We’re getting way way off topic now, but I hope the next 3D Mario that launches with Switch 2 includes characters like Daisy, Wario and Waluigi, Rosalina and maybe even the DK characters and gives them something to do. It’s just now dawning on me that a lot of the fan favorite Mario characters don’t really have fleshed out personalities and almost exclusively appear in spinoffs despite their extreme popularity.

Apologies for the double post, but much to my disappointment, they ran out of them by the time I got there at 2:45, was pretty damn disappointing but I wonder if this could have been a new demand issue with how they only recently arrived at the park.

Guess I'll be visiting again sometime but with an earlier reservation. I'm a bit baffled they didn't have enough to meet demand for how it wasn't there at the start of the holiday events. :(

Coincidentally, there were guest surveyors outside the exit, and I voiced my complaints to them about the unavailability among other things, namely the still missing Japan items.

So funny how we Hollywood bros were dying for DK, knowing we'll probably never get it. But now we're like, "Actually, you can keep it."

Replace Transformers with a Mario themed scoop, add the music blocks, and maybe bulldoze a couple more sound stages behind Transforners so we can have the best SNW already. We already got the best Mario Kart queue. Hollywood coming out on top, just playing the long game. :kissing:

I'd take DK over the mummy still but not going to happen so why argue about it, there would be some upset by the Mummy going but we all know if DK was opening January the parks would become packed again like when SNW opened but....its not USH seems to want to focus more on events then adding to the park until after the olympics and will hope 2030's is finally when USH can get some more lands and rides and hopefully a drone show so the park finally feels like a full day park

Anyway on the topic of merch, I hope them selling out in less then a week of pushes Universal to talk with Nintendo about more "rare" characters

Nintendo has slowly changed since Wii U/switch to embrace these other characters the Amiibo's being a great example where besides the AC ones most did very well, until they restocked them many characters like Little Mac (punch out) would go for over 60 bucks and not saying full the storys but every month why not drop some merch for none Mario main Characters. I assume most of the time they will sell out and its a win win for everyone

Also I'll report back if tonight is different but the MK ride while the biggest draw still, many times at closing the ride is a ghost town which was not always the case but since this is the busy season along with Spring break/some of summer wanted to point it out that most weeknights and even most weekends I've gone by the last hour the ride is basically a walk on

As someone whose primary exposure to Nintendo is through Mario Party and Mario Kart, I was pretty surprised to learn how many characters I identify as "core" (or core-adjacent) are considered rare. Obviously they have limited merch space, but I think there's a lot of room for experimentation.

I'll be really curious to see what they do with Pokemon when it comes to the parks. There's a lot to sift through there.

Pokemon will become an endless money pit for Universal, Nintendo/Pokemon Company

There are like a billion ways to sell these characters....toys, cards,t-shirts, plushes, power bands )or whatever they use in land) and thats not to mention they can do Winter Pokemon Collection and just dress up Pokemon in cute costumes and make them limited and watch as they sell out

Also if USH can somehow get exclusive Pokemon cards physical or even for the Pocket (phone) game then I'm in real trouble, lol

(also for those who don;t know Pokemon is still one of the Hottest IPs...soruce Pokemon TCG Pocket Has Already Made a Ridiculous Amount of Money )

Land Update

They have now covered all the Lamp posts with the Holiday Wraps and Mario and Luigi Photo Op area now has some presents on top of the blocks behind it

Had a wonderful visit today, crowds were super manageable in the midst of the Holiday season and SNW was a highlight as I took someone who never went before. Lots to note -

The GREAT:
  • The sous chef at Toadstool's was at EVERY table this morning asking what worked and what didn't. At one point I did eavesdrop and he did let spill something new they may be doing/ bringing soon/ seasonally, but I wasn't so sure what he specifically said... something to maybe keep an eye on. Highlight was definitely seeing how amicable and caring he was about the guest experience - taking all criticisms to heart. I really wish I dropped a comment on his ability to multitask in a busy environment. Definitely a step up from my first visit here!
  • I know it's been said before but Bowser's Challenge is such a perfect ride for locals to have re-ride-ability. So much to appreciate in this great attraction, and just so fun. Not to mention how perfect I think this is for Hollywood specifically.
  • During the first hour/ and a half today at the park, no pre-show on Mario Kart! It was nice to just walk on through without stopping, and ops were great.
The BAD:
  • The land cannot be this deteriorated only two years in dude... animatronics not working, insanely dirty exposed animatronics and blocks, paint peeling.... it's all so hurtful to see.
  • MK's visors are blurry and maybe damaged? I rode twice and my second ride through felt like i was looking through a scratched window which took away from my immersion.
  • The tall Binoculars are still out of commission.. it's been so long.
The UNDECIDED:
  • Don't think I saw Toad today at all, and when trying to get the last Mario & Luigi photospot today, TMs came out saying it wouldn't happen to all guests and that the character appearances were terminated for the day. It was very strange and I cant imagine how unfulfilled one day visitors might feel.
  • The ice glacier mini-game really needs a TM to control crowd flow. So many children just stopping and abusing the power block and creating a line that never moves with no regulation whatsoever. It was chaotic trying to be in line for a simple screen based game that guests obviously would not feel comfortable telling others to move along even though they're just hogging the screen at that point.
  • Those useless kiosks need to go for something else man.

All in all, solid day at the park with a great visit to SNW with a first timer.

I'm a bit split on that; this was also the case when I did Early Access with another first timer friend about a week ago. As nice as it was to not have to wait, I had to explain as much as I could about how the ride worked to my friend as we were making our way down. Afterwards they were grateful I explained as they otherwise would have been confused on what to do.

I also concur on the ice glacier game needing a TM though, and the kiosks being replaced. With how many other shops carry the bands, it's much more convenient to buy a Power Up Band on the way down and get straight to the interactivity than use the kiosk inside the land.

Sorry for the double post, but I thought I'd share a good change that might have been in effect for a bit now: Fire Flower Spaghetti is now available without the spice!
Screenshot_20241218_121154_Gallery.jpg
As someone with a very low spice tolerance, this means the world to me. This and Garlic Knots might just be my go-to order here after having the Luigi Burger so often.

Still no Snowman Cakes despite a 11:30am reservation though, sucks. :/

Forgot to mention it but I did see that sign last week. Everything except the wreaths were eligible for this.

Hard to say, but I could definitely see it as either that or they want to clear out as much stock before Christmas, considering some of the items felt overpriced for what they are, like the batch of gift bags and To/From tags.

There's only so much you can do with SNW at Hollywood. You just gotta accept its a small park and the best service you can offer it is maintaining the land/ride properly and occasionally roll out some new merch. We don't need a ride based off Obscure Nintendo Character 47.
