Got that. Maybe if they tried again with SpongeBob, that'd work. I don't know.

I think they may use the Spongebob land in Texas as a measuring stick for a potential future larger land.

My guess if the litmus test of SpongeBob goes over well at the Texas kids park, SpongeBob would probably get a land at IOA that would replace either Toon Lagoon or Seuss landing.

I can say with complete certainty that Seuss Landing is not going anywhere. Even if the land could benefit from some touch-ups, the Seuss merchandise is extremely popular, and Grinchmas is a huge draw for the holiday season. Universal would never willingly let that contract expire.

First of all, Nicktoons was never an "outdated" property. Alot still stream them on Paramount Plus. Rocko made way for SpongeBob, who is still the most popular cartoon of all time. You'd be surprised how many kids these days know old Nicktoons.

Sorry, I have to disagree. Specific Nicktoons, really just Spongebob, may be relatively evergreen IP, but the larger Nicktoons brand and lineup are intensely 90s, and very much marketed and sold within the context of the 20-30 year nostalgia cycle.

TV ages culturally a lot faster than movies, theatre, or video games. There are only a few tv shows that I would consider truly "evergreen" and not outdated by today's standards. Even cultural juggernauts like The Simpsons are reaching the end of their effective lifespan. Kid shows age even faster, and a number of the most evergreen series' within that space also have larger brands they are attached to such as Transformers, Pokemon, Power Rangers, TMNT, My Little Pony, etc.

IMO Nicktoons aren't marketed to kids anymore, they're aimed towards young adults. I don't think we'll see much more Nicktoons within theme parks, for very similar reasons to why we didn't get The Goofy Movie taking over RnRC. If they wanted to hit that iron while it was hot, they should've started building 4-5 years ago. At this point, even the nostalgia cycle with millenials and Gen Z will be largely over by the time anything opens

This is all within the conversation of theme park expansions, which take a long time to build, cost a lot of money, and need to last for potentially decades. The characters and shows might still be watched and will probably continue to get T-Shirts and funko pops for a long time, but for theme park attractions and expansions? I believe their moment is pretty much done.

I have to agree with your sentiment here. While WB and Paramount are still producing animated kids shows that appeal to young children, the overall branding power once held by Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network has faded greatly. While the decline of traditional cable broadcasting has played a major part in this, both studios have allowed their content to decline for many years now, primarily coasting along on the popularity of one or two shows, and neglecting everything else.

As you mentioned, these characters and channel logos will likely always be around for retro merchandise, but I think the brands of these channels will continue to be gradually phased out of having a functional use for their parent companies.

Then why didn't they get the rights for Peanuts like they wanted to for IOA?? The Peanuts holiday show would've been a surefire hit. Cedar Fair did the right thing buying Knott's. It led to stuff like this:

Imagine Universal doing something like that?? (TBF, they'd capture more of the vibe Peanuts was known for; I've heard some say that CF did them dirty in stage shows. I just don't like Lucy's voice. She sounds like a grown woman.)

No offense, and I know Peanuts is ingrained in pop culture, but there’s no world in which Universal would replace Springfield with a Peanuts land and people from all over would flock to experience it.

If they had brought Peanuts to IOA (like they made a concept for when the park was still being developed) is what I'm saying.

What does that really have to do with the conversation though? There's a thread for Peanuts in the IoA forum.

I mean, by that logic, you could say "if it weren't for the Looney Tunes/Mickey Mouse/any prominent early cartoon character, there'd be no Simpsons." I'm not sure how productive that line of thinking is in this particular conversation

It ain't. I just wanted to point that out.

Going back on topic, it's insane to think this ride has now lasted longer than BTTF has on both parks. There are gonna be more people who are more likely to be nostalgic for this than for BTTF.

And before you ask, yes, BTTF is still the better ride. Models and puppetry still beat CGI.

Good point. Toon Lagoon it would be then for a SpongeBob land. TL needs to go and I think most people on this forum would agree.

I wouldn’t agree. It has two world class water rides and the theming is better than people will give it credit for. SpongeBob would be a worthy replacement but idk if I see it realistically happening. Fine with what we have now.

Toon Lagoon will be "fixed" if they can find a way to add in more relevant characters with what's there now and add a major attraction (or show) at the TL Theater for those that don't want to get wet. Similar to Lost Continent, it's essentially a well themed "bypass" land if you are not interested in getting wet.

If they can do that and completely redo the menu at Comic Strip Cafe, I think they can get away with very minor cosmetic changes.

I very much enjoy Toon Lagoon, and am completely fine with sticking around for awhile (especially if they made some minor upgrades around the land)

But if I had the chance to get a Spongebob Land, I'd trop TL in literally 1 second
