I could see Universal doing it in phases like Disney did with the New Fantasyland

Phase 1 (Fall 2013-Spring 2014):
Animal Actors upgrade
Fievel demo/replacement
E.T. Entrance relocation
KidZone Pizza replacement

Phase 2 (Fall 2014-Spring 2015):
Addition of a few flat rides
Barney demo (Scooby dark ride in its place)

Phase 3 (Fall 2015-Summer 2016):
E-ticket SpongBob dark ride
Curious George relocation
Unknown kiddie IP attraction
Woody Nuthouse relocation and theming upgrade with extended track
Looney Tunes boat ride (either outdoor or indoor)

However, Comcast wouldn't do the grand opening until everything was open (to avoid "dwarfing" their big project lol)

It makes sense for a drastic renovation to only close a few things at a time to avoid bottle necking the one family area of the park :)

Comcast don't do no phase closings... :mib:

P.S Just playing with ya, I like your idea .

Haha it's the Matrix all over again :p

And it makes sense to do phases only because its kinda a bottleneck of an area (only one entrance/exit) so if they had the whole thing walked off for 2-3 yrs, parents with little kids would be furious lol

Some of those ideas are nice but scooby-doo isn't exactly the most modern show right now and six flags owns rights to it.

They could actually relocate the E.T entrance to the pizza place. Have the indoor queue wrap behind the storepants and so on....

Scooby Doo stays active. The latest show ended this month, it prob would not be long before they make another show too. Also there is a couple of movies every year.

The contract with 6Flags may be a crutch, but IDK if there is a level of exclusivity.

I don't think you need a relevant brand for this redo. They just need to make great attractions. Scooby-Doo is still popular with many people through their childhood, and it can strive in Universal with the right attraction. Hopefully a ride that involves the mystery machine.

But that would mean wasting a restaurant and a functioning kitchen, so I don't think that's the best option. They should really transform this pizza spot into The Krusty Krab ASAP. That'd be huge. Maybe even more popular than Springfield's restaurant complex :look:

Definitely. I actually see something like that happening. As far as attractions for the KidZone I would love to see a Scooby-Doo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ride! lol I think Scooby Doo and TMNT have been and will be relevant for a very long time. Also which park has the rights for Ninja Turtles? because there is a new movie coming out next summer. And Madagascar could replace the Barney show and be a popular family show.

Love the TMNT idea! (Could be the thrill ride of the area - somewhere in the 38"-42" range) but I feel that Barney should be bulldozed for the Scooby-Doo dark ride. The area is too small to have two theaters when there would be zero dark rides if they decide to relocate E.T. to Hollywood. Barney would be a nice spot for a small C-ticket dark ride akin to say a modern-day Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (with SpongeBob being the E-ticket, and possibly TMNT being a D-ticket)

But if they decide to keep the Barney theater, Dora should go there - she's already in the parade, she's Nick, and she's gonna be around a LONG time (like Sesame Street long lol), and she appeals to preschoolers. Add in a flat ride and a meet and greet - you've got a nice little mini-land for preschoolers without making the whole area for the under 5 set!

And that's what I think Universal should go for - timeless properties. TMNT, SpongeBob, Dora, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes... they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Same for Curious George, while Woody Woodpecker could be this once Illumination releases his movie and Universal starts actually using him again! If they find a way to unify these characters under one general idea/theme, it will easily compete with Seuss Landing and Fantasyland as a top-tier area for families/kids/kids at heart :)

P.S. Madagascar is off-limits due to Busch owning the rights now... and Looney Tunes can be used in Florida because Six Flags doesn't have a location here (closest is North Georgia I think)

The krusty krab would fit in way better with it's own building. It wouldn't bring the story to life if they just plopped it by the corner of the gift shop. I'd rather see them build an area with spongebob and the other characters houses, along with a krusty krab that would look like it came out of the story.

I'd love to see them theme the exterior to be similar to the forest with giant (fake) pines and shrubbery, with the building being repainted green and the first part of the queue being redone to match the second part of the queue. (Don't get me started on the ride lol)

Remember how I said I wanted a ride that was Haunted Mansion or Pirates-like with modern tech and touches?

THIS is what I meant.

Now you can't seriously tell me you wouldn't want something similar at USF and IoA.

Is that Mystic Manor from HK Disneyland? That's probably THE most amazing Dark Ride I've ever seen. Yes, if Uni did something this brilliant and imaginative, I'd totally forgive them for "ripping off" Seaworld and using the Oceaneering trackless ride system because the ride system isn't even noticeable...you're so engrossed in the story. The effects/story on that ride are the most immersive I've ever seen...brilliant! Now imagine if Orlando management got their hands on it! We'd have an entry-level Sally dark ride with cardboard cutouts branded as an "E-ticket." :ears:

Thanks for posting that Skip! :rep: That's amazing!! :doggie:

If that level of dark ride came to Kidzone, or really anywhere in UOR, regardless of track/vehicle system... I would :died:

Love it! Give me this over Avatar, New Fantasyland, or a Monsters Inc Door coaster any day.

I said this on twitter, but if we got a Mystic Manor type attraction to go along with every disappointing Fantasyland expansion or Avatar, I think we'd feel a lot better about those additions.

So Disney DOES still know how to make amazing rides! That seems like an incredible dark ride and I would love to go on it. The animatronics and the effects seem to be top-notch. Hopefully we will be getting something similar in the future here in the states.
