Does anyone know what the writing on the Mirror of Erised means, or even what language it's in?
All I got was "erised" means "will be" in Latin.

I must have overlooked that somehow, I'm sorry! I was using a Cannon T1i. This camera, if you're interested in more: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=139&modelid=18385 If you're not interested it's a upper entry level DSLR, essentially. I hope to go back next week when a friend is visiting to actually focus on the photography and not going OOH, SHINY OBJECT!

And I will overload as soon as we hit the next page!

It's "desire" backwards. When you look into it, it shows you what you desire most. At least, in the book.

Erised is Desire spelled backwards. I'm not sure about the writing, though

EDIT: Beaten by avadakedavra! :P

I knew I'd read this somewhere:

It says: "erised straeh ruoy tub ecaf ruoy ton wohs I"
Which is a mirror image of: "I show not your face but your hearts desire."

Tada! And now, to add those photos since, apparently, we hit a new page!

Anyone else watching the news on fox by chance. They just had a segment on their about the WWoHP and its economic impact not just on central Florida but also on Universal parks across the world. They are comparing this opening to the 1971 opening of the Magic Kingdom. Pretty strong words.

I saw this report and just laughed. Comparing an "island" that holds less than 10,000 people to a park that hold 55,000 to 60,000 people a day in the summer. Build a whole park and then you can start to compare.

Ahh, interesting. Thanks to all of you. I guess it's a coincidence that erised is actually a word in Latin.

The comparison is in the ECONOMIC effect, not the attendence.

So there are two mugs? I've been wondering if there was on for both Hogs Head and Three broomsticks when I saw the mugs. That's fantastic! One more souvenir!

@Manta - Politely. The kid was refusing to wave the wand, sulking. He tried for several minutes to get him to partake, but the kid refused. So he said, "perhaps now is not your time and you'll be back to visit me another time when you are ready," or something to that effect. The parents didn't throw up a fuss when he moved on and quite frankly? They ought to have no reason to complain if the wandkeeper valiantly attempted to get the kid to participate and couldn't get him into it! Might as well move on to make the experience better for someone else and for those watching. It was awkward and somewhat uncomfortable waiting for the kid to play along. Even if I hadn't been selected, I would have been glad to see someone move on.

@amonuniversal - No problem! It does pretty well even if I have pretty basic lenses! I'll have more to share hopefully next week once I get to the park with a friend on Monday or Tuesday and I hope to do the photography aspect of the park some justice! It held up well in the FJ queue as well! (Evidence, fair warning, it's a FJ queue photo: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._527955917019_206801919_31418786_506853_n.jpg)

And I still laugh at it. It will never have the ECONOMIC affect that the Magic Kingdom has had to central FL. And attendence equals $$$. Even if IOA fills completely up every day it still can't bring as many people into central FL as the Magic Kingdom does.

Again, Potter is very widely known and will draw tons of people who are willing to pay a fortune each day they visit for a very long time to come. This place is a gold mine and you cannot deny it.

@avadakedavra- I guess the kid wasn't having a good vacation. It would be pretty awkward. I don't think that would happen too often. Th ekid who got picked in my group was estatic about being picked. And I think I had the same wandkeeper as you! He was very good.

@Manta - Oh it was so awkward. The kid clearly didn't want to partake. The first time I went through, the kid complained about being selected afterward in the shop. Still a bit awkward when there are so many around my age chomping at the bit to be selected! I thought the wandkeeper was fantastic both times, he may have been the same one both times, actually!

And as far as speculation goes. I think saying it will revolutionize like MK is a bit of a stretch, but honestly? The appeal is so vast and there are new fans made daily. People WILL vacation to see HP. But will it pull as strong as the mouse? Maybe not. Is it by far one of the most immersive experiences? Absolutely

Never said it wasn't greatly themed. I don't see the huge lines in the stores like there were a week ago. They still have open rooms over 4th of July someone posted a little while ago. It will make Universal a good amount of money. 2 years from now it won't bring in the type of money it does now. But guess what, the Magic Kingdom is never slow, even in the off season. Today the park wasn't even that busy. Summer has already started and Universal is using 1 parking garage and they can't even fill that. Never said it wasn't a great addition. I'm just being a realist when it comes to comparing an area(attraction) to a whole park.

The general public doesn't know that Harry Potter is open for Technical Rehearsal. So of course it's still a bit dead. But just wait till this Friday and the following couple of months, and you'll see those parking garages filled to the max.

Exactly. Plus, many HP fans are not coming over just yet because they are waiting to come during the conventions happening here like Infinitus 2010 or LeakyCon 2011. HP has mass appeal on many different generations, just like Disney, but I would not go comparing Disney which is almost a century old with HP which is just over a decade old... And even at its early "age," HP is INCREDIBLY successful. They're just different things with some similarities but overall a different appeal...

Crap... It's so late... I really must get to bed... Night everyone!
