I would expect both 4K and 3D. Most likely you will still need glasses. I don't think the glasses free tech is good enough yet, especially with all of the motion of the Kuka arms.

I am not expecting 3D, nor do I want it with glasses. It will be very cumbersome with glasses on that ride, and I do NOT want glasses strapped onto my head. Until they can perfect glasses free 3D (which will be impossible for many years with this type of ride), I want it as-is, just upgraded to 4K.

I think they are going to ditch the physical sets all together and make it virtual reality.

I am just kidding.

There could be a walkway on the side of the building you could take without actually going into the seating area of the theater.

that walkway doesnt lead over into the park though... also it would be another huge LP issue like it was for Gibson and Marvel Mania.

The walkway in the picture does not in real life enter the park. I was just trying to get a picture that kind of looked like the idea I had in my mind. The reason Marvel Mania closed was because its owner Planet Hollywood was in financial trouble.

I was not expecting the ride to be in 3D either until you said...

That fact right there changed my mind. It shows they originally wanted it in 3D.

But 3D won't happen. Too impractical for this ride.

I know you were using the bridge as an example, but I think that's near where park management is located incidentally enough.

FJ is too intense for regular 3D glasses, and it's too much of a hassle for everyone to wear goggles for a 4-5 minute attraction. Also, the ride makes guests queasy enough already - I don't think it'd be very wise to incorporate something that will only induce nausea.

I never said never ;) I just meant this time around it won't happen because it's ultra impractical. William hit the nail on the head. Glasses free 3D is about a decade away or more from working with something like Forbidden Journey with all of the ways it moves. And like William said, it already makes people queasy as-is, and 3D would make it worse, especially with a dome screen that's so close and in your face. And with a ride that throws you around like this, it would have to utilize 3D strap on goggles, which I hope they'd never do.

I only see it getting 3D in a glasses free form in the distant future, but for now I just see a 4K upgrade.

I'm not saying never, but for now, I'm 99% sure the ride will open without 3D ;)

I'm hoping for a 4K upgrade though.

It won't be a 3D upgrade for the same reason The Simpsons and Soarin' haven't been upgraded to 3D. 3D does not work properly with concave encompassing screens, the only part of the screen that would have the perfect 3D effect would be the dead center of the screen and the rest would be blurry. Regarding USJ's opening next year. Honestly, i'd rather wait 2 more years for our slightly different version of WWoHP, than have an exact duplicate of Orlando's much sooner. Just my personal preference.

^ oh yeah, good point! Transfomer's screens are the exception because they're not full omnimax, just huge. And honestly, with a screen as big as Simpsons and Soarin, it doesn't NEED 3D, it feels that way already.

Considering the current state of glasses free 3D, it might be possible to do it on the ride in a limited capacity. It will not be happening on the dome screens. They might be able to pull it off with some of the flat screens they have on the ride using eye tracking cameras.

This scene could potentially be in glasses free 3D.

I thought of that too, but it wouldn't make the ride experience consistent. Make it all 3D or no 3D. And I'd rather have no 3D, it's realistic as is. It's similar to why they (apparently) axed the Optimus animatronic that addresses us at the end of the ride ("your bravery...")

If they tried hard enough, they COULD create an advanced glasses free 3D system with an eye tracking system that swivels to match the movements on the seats, but again, it would make people even more queasy.

They way I look at it is that the glasses free tech can give that wow moment at the end of the ride. Some of the great dark rides have saved their best trick for the end of the ride like ET saying your name. the hitchhiking ghost on the Haunted Mansion, and the giant boulder on Indiana Jones.

The whole ride is a wow moment ;) I personally think having one glasses free 3D moment would make the ride feel inconsistent and make guests wonder "why couldn't they do the while ride that way". It's not worth it.

Yeah, not only is that the 5511/park management and staff building, but that bridge leads right to USH staffing services.

I don't think they want guests mingling with nervous interviewees clutching their resumes half the time.

That scene of the ride already appears realistic in my opinion. In person you can tell it's a screen (obviously), but from what I can remember you aren't looking at a completely flat picture.

The effect of that last screen is squinch and stretch, or whatever Universal Creative calls it. It's used extensively in Transformers, Spider-Man, and on that one screen in the Mummy that's above us before the "mummy zombies" scene (guy who gets eaten by scarrabs). I think it's great as is and we don't need 3D just for one screen IMO

They use that effect on a huge scale in Radiator Springs Racers for Ramones scene. Proof that you don't need 3D glasses for the effect.

Someone just sent me this link.

The gist of it is: "deluxe" version of Springfield and no Great Hall. Can't vouch for the validity of his statements, but he seems to be pretty confident.
