I do have to commemorate the team members. not many of the guests even realized this happened at all.

here's a link describing a bit more on what happened

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Shooting-Reported-at-Universal-CityWalk-298627821.html

apparently it was a team members ex-boyfriend who committed suicide. more details in the link.

I wouldn't be surprised if the park really decides to add metal detectors...

I hope not, metal detectors basically give out a vibe that "this place is dangerous" its like driving down a neighborhood and notice all the windows on the houses have bars on them. just gives a bad reputation. Disneyland doesn't have metal detectors but six flags does and we all know the difference between those two parks.

I'd say just hire better security guards that do their job right.

We've had this conversation before I an older thread but I forget where...

I made my point on Twitter earlier, so I'll just briefly say that it was an isolated incident, security is just as lax at Disneyland and Knotts, and please don't react with fear. It will cripple you.

From what has come out of today; I'd more expect a major change in the Rulings for All staff safety; not just Guest safety..

Yes, this CAN happen anywhere. And I would personally like to see metal detectors at Disney AND Universal. I don't care if it makes us wait longer before we enter the park, this is our safety we're talking about. We live in a society with trigger happy mentally unstable loonies all over the place. Better safe than sorry.

We could always not let anybody in. That would keep everyone safe. It worked for Cartmanland.

It's a very busy day at universal. I drove by lankershim and there was a line of cars going all the way down the hill. Also there was a line going down the freeway.

This week is the most common time frame for Spring Break. They must be expecting great crowds, because the Studio Tour priority boarding system is being utilized today.

I've also noticed that the security guards are being more thorough with their searches. I'm impressed though that the news hasn't fazed any other part of the park, or at least any more than it is right now. its almost as if it never happened. I guess the park wants to keep it buried as swiftly as possible.

I did see a few officers walking around the Upper Lot during my visit on Saturday, but not much beyond that.

I will say this, I was there Saturday and Sunday and the bag check area was a joke for what just occurred the day before. When I walked through they were letting guests walk through without checking their bags. They were too busy talking about the NCAA Basketball tournament. I came very close to going to guest relations to let them know what their outside security was not doing. Very disappointed in Universal.

^ I wish you would've gone and told them. Honestly, I'm gonna write a letter to Disney and Universal. I know Universal is good at "false fronts" or "facades", but that should apply to their security...

Same. I did not hesitate to let a supervisor know when I spotted one sleeping on the job even though they are a private company hired by USH and not direct employees of USH.

^ Doesn't matter. Anyone a company outsources has to abide by the main company's rules and policies. They better get better. They might as well put cardboard cut outs at the front.

That's not what I meant. Front Gate supervisors are not the bosses of the security guards just as the security commanders are not the bosses of front gate attendants. It was more in regards to chain of command. Of course they have to adhere to whatever policies the company puts in place. They're the ones hiring them.

Is this Sherlock Holmes shadow new or did I miss it on each of my 50+ visits in the past year?

You missed it. It's been there for years. I think they recently repainted him though.

The "shadow" was absent for quite some time while they transformed the Hollywood Shoppe into the Palace Theatre Café (and a few months after that as well), so that's probably why you don't recognize it.
