I'm hoping its different for theme parks. From what I've seen with residential and commercial construction in Florida, speed and cheapness or just plain incompetence is the norm.

I've never really cared for building anything fast, be it cars, houses, buildings, rides...

There are inspectors for a reason. If something didnt meet spec or was built cheaply you can bet it wouldn't fly. Also I'm pretty sure no matter what part of the country you are in or even anywhere in the world, the work will be going to cheapest bidder but that doesn't mean it's the cheapest quality. They could be cheaper with labor or even try to get cheaper pricing from their suppliers and save money and pass it along. And also not to mention some of the strict building code we have due to the hurricanes. Miami-Dade doesn't mess around anymore ever since Andrew. Not saying everything is built perfect but they do have standards to follow.

Its kinda scary how fast its going. Construction in Florida isn't the greatest when it comes to um quality.
I'd rather wait longer for a ride than have it built fast.

Like OF said, cheapness is the key word. I can not speak for commercial construction in Florida as I have done very little. As far as residential goes, it's get it done fast and cheap. I am not saying that all GCs are like this but it appears to be the norm in my area. Incompetence abounds in Marion county. Quality control, nonexistent. Meeting building codes, not if you can get away with it. I could give example after example.

I was involved in a job on a secured property in Marion county. The final inspection was signed off and an inspector never even set foot on the property. The county got their money though.

Granted, where I come from building a house is substantially more expensive. I guess this is an example of you get what you pay for.

Hope I didn't step on any toes, but that's how I see it.

Yes BOBWADD, exactly what I was trying to say.
I'm in construction and I've seen things on multi-million dollar job sites that I should'nt have.

Let me be clear. I'm not saying Universal is knowingly cutting corners when it comes to the construction on thier property.

It as much the contractors responsiblity, as well as the subs, to do the job right just not rely on the inspectors to catch everything.
And the cheapest bid is not always the least expensive. I also work construction, have for 25 years, and seen alot of things that have been let slide and others that were taken to the other extreme.

Reputation is a big deal in this industry also. Wouldn't this construction companies want to do quality work and no be known ase company that builds house the big bad wolf can blow down?

Also I don't deal with much with the actual construction of the house so im not sure if the inspectors are the same. The crews thay I deal with get the services tied in and split for the most part. I know some of the municipalities are really strict with what goes in the ground, heck we have some that even tv the line and if they see any gaps in the joints or anything they make them rip the pipe right out of the ground.

Isn't PCL doing the building construction on this project? I suspect that they are doing it right. But that doesn't mean that tired, exhausted worker can't make a mistake. But to intentionally cut corners I don't believe is PCL's style.

Hansel Phelps is the main contractor, but PCL is helping out.

Remember that I was talking about residential construction.

I am assuming that any contractor UOR uses is top notch. Mistakes do happen but I imagine would not be tolerated on this type of job. Safety has to come first in the completed project.

I wouldn't even say this is really built faster than anything else, it's the amount of hours and man-power being put into it. This is taking a little less than a year, but they are working 3x more shifts that previous projects aren't they?

How many times did we see a change in permit postings because there was a mistake and the inspector caught it and made them go back and do it right before they could move on? Like these guys are saying- these contractors arent some post-plumber construction workers. They know what they're doing and seeing as to how its been built 3 times, they certainly know how to build it.
