Probably because the building was planned/constructed around the time Universal was struggling, right before the comcast merger happened.

That E7 overlay makes it look like that's the color the building will stay, unless it's temporary.

Edit: Whoa, the construction walls are coming down, those black walls are on wheels. They look almost ready to open this thing, that's crazy!

Looks like I called it with the long steel framing studs mounted to the side of the structure being for faux columns. If we see these on the other side we know what will happen next.

You're all welcome! I'm very excited for this! It's shaping up, bit by bit. I dig the direction they're going. Let's just hope the 7th Avenue side doesn't turn out to be a mural, and then I'll be totally happy

The folks in the parks regularly seem to be appreciating the direction, so I totally give the benefit of the doubt. When I look at the building in person though, it is far larger and imposing than the pictures convey. So sitting here, I am always imagining a very imposing structure being masked by tissue paper.

Didn't someone say that we wouldn't be able to tell the new facade from the original NY facades?
It would just be a shame to look down that street and see some eyesore...shades of DHS hat.
