Holy crap, I did not see that big line. I was so busy with the egg hunt and the colored Yoshi line that I think by the time I did meet Yoshi, it did fizzle out around the time you mentioned. Good lord. Lord have mercy on the lines if Daisy is next for FFN 2026

They did close it at midnight, but I don't think they communicated that, which they ought to.

Been on the belief for a while that SS12 should enter from the backstage gate of SNW ala how Potter is to H-Lot. Have to imagine we are inching to that being a probable reality for this year with Jurassic.

I have to think BTTF will be a fixture of the event. It seems like a very easy win to have a TT-Esque experience that unlike TT, could operate all throughout the night without any concern or issues. Alternatively maybe instead of BTTF, perhaps Jaws?

With how much of a hit BTTF has been, I hope it is. Now that you mention Jaws, I wonder if it'd be pushing it if they did two locales on the lot, like you can stay on the tram if you wanna go to Jaws, but this would mean there'd be two drop off and pickup points for the tram.

Don't know, but I was already planning to write to USH support about if the Yoshi food items are available in the daytime like virtually everything else. I'll definitely include that.

In regards to JAWS... don't forget it turns 50 this year & there is that rumored "Universal Mega Movie" summer event. They've already done auditions for Brody & the Mayor

Lets go Review Time I won't argue these points too much but in the future year...sorry going to be annoying because we once again have data on what people want that just you can't in my eyes really argue with because arguing its just not in YOUR interest but Nintendo needs more things in USH now, not 5 years from now but NOW. The Yoshi meet and greet has he longest line and for sure is not the best thing in the event that goes to BTTF or D&D but you can't argue with these lines people want more Nintendo

Second Anime is base USH needs to tap into more and find ways to get meet and greets and snacks/food take overs for anime's here more then just for fan fest. No other park is offering Anime stuff the One Piece restaurant had a line from opening ot past 12 AM on Friday...so I would serve these people and get them to come back they will buy merch and food and this is the way theme parks really make money so find partners willining to get there characters/snacks into your park

Now onto the Review

Right up front for at least opening weekend this event is worth it, now if they let more people in after this weekend then that could screw this review up but whatever I can't predict the future. Compared to Disney after dark which ends an hour earlier and cost 100 more dollars, yeah this is a great value

Star Trek Red Alert - 7/10 Good but could have used more interesting writing or a more interesting plot. The sets, and costumes are well done and when you had aliens part of it that felt great, but when its mostly just humans felt "cheap" but maybe thats just me. I went through this three times and ended my night with only 3 other guests and its kinda fun but just something is missing from it to make it anywhere as great as D&D. Also in no way do I need like you need to watch the show to enjoy this, besides the ship your on being connected the plot and characters here have ZERO to do with the show

Dungeons and Dragons - Pretty much a 10/10 - This was really fun and amazing. The lightening when you take a picture of the characters doing something feels right out of a movie/medieval dinner theater in the best way. The sets are really well done, the story is fine but the actors here are having so much fun that it just makes this attraction work. The ending Puppet is just...amazing just so well done. Even watching my videos of it so many little things I didn't notice just very well done. Go on this over Star trek if you can only do one, I would not mind this being a repeat next year with the story changed around a bit, its just a fun time.

BTTF Hill Valley - 10/10 This is pretty much perfect when you discount the rumors or wording where it sounded like a real car would be set back in time. The actors come up to you and talk with you and some even remember you and will pick up on conversations you started before its really fun. I got called a butthead, which come on as a BBTF this is what everyone should want to happen once right? lol Anyway its really fun and surprised for now how its for sure popular but the crowds were for the most part small enough to see most of the scenes being acted out. The photo op with Doc after the tram way also super fun that actor was doing great

JJK Cursed of the Hunger - 7/10 - This is pure Filler Anime it has some fun moments if you know the characters but its just normal side quest of an anime. Here is a new bad guy and then they beat him. The effects are well done for the show and even if Dubbed not sure how much that would make this better but if you like Anime check it out but if its over 30 mins, go check out the live band or something else and wait for the lines to cool down

Plaza Live Music with the Flux Capacitors - 9/10 - This is what I've been asking for for years, live music from your favorite movies and TV shows. Please more of this these guys ruled they played the Pokemon theme, Blink 182, the Killers, BTTF music and much much more. GO ask at TM for the next showtimes and check out of one their sets each one should be different. My big note on this is the App or a sign needs to be out front with show times to help get more people into this area

One Piece meet and greets - they look and act great. The issue is they are too much in demand. It took me about 40+ mins to meet them all at the end of the night and they just need to have quicker turn around times on the characters going in and coming out it was about 15 mins, this needs to become 5 mins or less with these kinda crowds to help keep the lines moving more. I also have no idea what makes this a fan zone over a meet and greet, the extra themeing? It was fun meeting them all but some small rules need to be made like no cutting for ANYONE, no idea why but Tm's would let some people just cut but that sucks to see when you've been waiting in a long line, Second you get two poses at max some people took 3+ mins to meet the characters that just took long. I make videos you do not need longer then 1 min to talk and get a picture after 2 mins to me you are just being rude to the other guests and we need to just have a TM saying you have a time limit and picture limit to keep the line moving

Yoshi egg hunt - not reviewing this with numbers the Egg hunt is for kids and for adults feels like filler. Then you have in a long line to meet a Random Yoshi and would have to redo the whole hunt to get in line again. The Yoshi lines can be fixed but it would require more costumes or something. But even with just three they could have one Yoshi meet at 7 PM, then one at 7:15 and one at 7:30 then many times 2-3 are at at the same time as they rotate actors the issue now is green yoshi comes out and the line fills up because he is on break for 15 mins. They should have two cotumes and can just switch them out or once again have them coming out in different areas to split the crowds
Once again USH just gives us the smallest little Nintendo because they just do not understand how much love this IP gets, the light show would have been INSANE corwds if they got to do that. Also Mario and Peach should have just been more Yoshi's this is what people paid for no reason to have the other characters when Yoshi is what the people wanted

HP - The Castle show was wonderful, best none drone show for sure. The creatures were fun to meet but the issue is when there are lots of people there is no line so those willing to literally just "cut" or jump in front of others win. I'd just say if you want a picture with this creature stand here and the first 20 people in line get a picture. The Dragon looked so ugly/cute I love him and the Niffeler I wanted to just steal and take home. I never say the third creature and this area could help out with a sign and times for creautres coming out. I hope we see these creatures again they are great and I think you coud do more just meet and greets or a fun new show where you bring them out and make it kinda like Animal actors but with these creatures.

Wicked - The actresses were wonderful the lines were 15 mins or less so fair. I hope they bring them back because lots of people seemed to be talking to these characters for a long time, so think USH would be smart to bring them back for Grinchmas and even the summer event

Overall its a a really great event. I think the main issues are them just not knowing how big the anime and Nintendo stuff would be and having no soluations as of yet of how to make it better for guests. The attractions lines were pretty fair and thats wonderful. Food also seems to need to have some kinks worked out

Pros the Actors are amazing, the IPs seems to all be loved by different groups and brought in a ton of different people, walking the BTTF sets is amazing and so well done. The Live music and castle show were both great and would recommend. D&D was just so much fun and hope next year we get two houses kinda like this. Lastly once again USH please look at this event and see how you can use Anime and Nintendo more even if just with new meet and greets every now and then, the switch 2 should also show you Nintendo is top tier and people are willing to spend money for Nintendo,

I hope everyone going has a great time, and hope you all have as much fun a I did. Just be aware some of the meet and greet lines can suck and just go on forever. I hope this even is back next year and hope they take our feedback and bring some fun IP's like Lord of the Rings and Godzilla that normally we would NEVER see in park come to life.

Okay, I finally have my review ready from opening night!

I got to visit on opening night of the first ever Fan Fest Nights! It felt really weird coming to Universal at sunset, enjoy the cool weather, and get an entry wristband for an event that’s not HHN. But here’s a detailed review of everything I’ve done in order:

Back to the Future: Destination Hill Valley: This was the absolute first thing I did knowing this would be the main “selling point” of the event. It felt surreal to be dropped off at the actual Courthouse Square. The best way I would describe the whole experience would be if they mixed the Holidays Made Here experience they had at Warner Bros with the Gilmore Girls sets with Ghost Town Alive from Knotts. Massive props to the casting because the casting was on. Freaking. Point with all of the main characters. Every 30 min they would cycle and recreate the iconic scenes from the movie. There were some good photo ops and I got to take a picture with the Goodest time travler boi! I kinda wished there was a little more to the Clocktower like having a mini stunt show or something, but hey, this is their first time doing an event like this so I can forgive that. Hopefully they will maximize the concept next year but the casting really made the whole experience! Maybe they could also have the facades have actual shops and eateries like they had with the Gilmore Girls sets at WB at Christmas.

I ate at Mel’s to get the pastrami patty melt. Was pleasantly surprised how good the pastrami was for a theme park. It’s not the Hat by any means but it’s not bad! I was kinda expecting a burger patty to go with it, but I liked it. Shake was also pretty good. Worth the $11? Ehhhhh…..I think I’ll stick with my In N Out shakes. Lol

Dungeons and Dragons: Secrets of Waterbridge: It felt weird going into a stage that wasn’t a haunted house. What’s cool is that the whole experience filled the entire sound stage. I didn’t expect much from this experience, but while the acting was a little cheesy, the set design in here, the effects, and the animatronics/puppets were really cool! It was literally a smaller scale Poseidon’s Fury.

Jujitsu Keisen: Hunger of the Cursed: As you know, it’s a direct import from USJ. In fact, they kept the references to USJ in the show. When they mentioned that park, everyone in the preshow LOL’d. I will say I’m mixed about no English dub. I appreciate keeping the dialogue all original Japanese, but the English sub was a little distracting. No to mention when characters were supposed to expect out of the screen, the English subtitles kinda ruined that effect. Otherwise cool overlay. I hope they do more for future events like Evangelion, Dragonball, or even port over the Attack on Titan “ride” over here. Also interesting to note: This is the longest iteration to be shown at this theater. I thin k it clocked in almost twice as long as KFP…that would explain the long waits for this.

Star Trek: Red Alert: Gonna be real, I think this was the weakest experience of the event. I may be bias because I’m not much of a “Trekie”. The design of the rooms was great, but I just didn’t feel any sense of urgency. Acting was cheesy and it was kinda hokey. Would’ve been nice if there was some element of fright by having the Borgs involved, but oh well. It’s their first year.

So what did I think of the first-ever Fan Fest Nights? While there are definitely things they can improve, I had a great time! I think it’s a very solid inaugural year overall! Not only is this their first time doing this event, but this is the first event of its kind. It was great to have a Hill Valley experience at the actual location they filmed it at. It was great having a Poseidon’s Fury-esque experience at USH. It was also cool to see a USJ-import in the Dream Works Theater. Although nothing is going to beat HHN as that is the ultimate after-hours event, this is the perfect “holdover” event for us and a great HHN-calibur event for those who aren’t into horror or getting scared. Although it sounds like they will, I really hope they do this again next year! Here’s what I would like to see next year:

One Piece stunt show at WaterWorld. Come on. It’s a huge IP that’s begging to be used for that venue. When they first announced the event, IU thought for sure that’s what they were gonna do for One Piece. Alas, it sounds like they just wanted to test the waters.

If it’s a strain on the budget and turnaround time between this and HHN, I think having two “In-World Experiences” and the BTTF Tram is just fine. I would much rather they focus on quality over quantity, especially if they take my suggestion and decide to add a One Piece show for Water World. D&D set a perfect one, pace, and feel for what this event should offer. I know this is a more kid-friendly event, but I really don’t want them to be afraid to add an element of fright if the narrative calls for it to be engaging. Star Trek really needed that to be interesting as it just didn’t work without a perceivable threat. Like Wesker said something like a Borg Invasion would’ve done wonders for it. They could’ve handled that without making it too terrifying for a non-horror audience.

BTTF was great. I would be shocked if they didn’t bring that back next year as that was likely the main draw of the event. Should they bring it back, I hope they have something like a mini stunt show with Doc Brown trying to connect the plugs on top of the clock tower. I can understand them not wanting to do something that ambitious for the first year, but I hope they do it next year!

Also, I’m glad I didn’t invest the money into early entry or Express. You really don’t need that. This surprises me considering how I was concerned how the “tour aspect” of ST and D&D would hold up the lines. It sounds like all the crowds went to the meet and greets and food, which is where you could really use the Express. Maybe they should factor that in.

But yeah go check it out! I’m looking foreword to going back one more time!

For JJK, maybe they could rotate dub and sub between time intervals. It's similar to how anime movies here have separate screenings/theaters, but I'm not sure how easy of a change that would be on the fly. May be easier than I think since they're already rolling out a different show altogether for this event and it'd be a matter of changing which video and audio feed are used. Solid picks for future ports too (Still praying hard for JoJo next year because of the Part 7 anime on the horizon.)

And hell yes, as someone in the not into horror crowd, I can't express enough about how good it is to have a similar event but to not have to worry about any of the stuff I can't handle.

For One Piece, I concur with how what we got is definitely a product of testing the waters, which makes sense. I could definitely see it returning but with the stunt show. I'd hope the meet and greets are still doable, but I'd imagine they will be.

I think express is definitely not needed unless you aren't a local or if they start overselling the event, which I hope not.

In any case, I would definitely use what you mentioned if they send a survey your way. I got one the following day and basically said most of the same things in my post to them.

This JJK really that big of a deal that it’s subbed? I hate dubs so much. It’s not how the they intended the media to be viewed.

Though they did do a decent job tapping into the projection mapping capabilities of the DWT.

Lol

I've watched Dubs for years, Death Note and Fullmetal aren't worst for being Dubbed its how you get people to watch them

If I want to read the Manga is there.

I will say it seems like people are going but I dislike people who don't watch dubs and have thoughts on them. I'm literally watching JJK dubbed right now and its great and how I got into the show. The Simpsons are dubbed in other countries and so are Disney films....no idea why its a bad thing to want to be able to watch a show and not have to to read the words

About the Yoshi food items, I have to say that on Friday night we were at Toadstool Cafe for a good 90 minutes waiting to order, waiting to sit down, waiting for our food, and then actually eating. But we saw a half dozen parties who had ordered that special green Yoshi milkshake, and not one of the groups drank more than a little bit of it. Everyone we saw left their drinks on the table, too, instead of taking it with them when they left.

My daughter was saying that whatever quality control or focus groups they used to test this drink out failed miserably.

The wait for the food at Toadstool seemed even longer than it did back when I had a pass and visited the restaurant a half dozen times during the first year that Super Nintendo World opened.

Saw Mark Woodbury visiting the Back to the Future section on the 25th. His note on the spinning license plate (which he took a picture of): "Nice touch".

I aruge some dubs are better than the og audio. Favorite example being the original Disney dub of Kiki's Delivery Service. They really brought that movie to life.

Maybe rotating dub and sub throughout the night might be a good idea after all to say the least. :/

Honestly I'd rather keep my eyes on the characters and not the words on the screen. Maybe something to keep in mind for next year's FFN. If they bring over the One Piece WaterWorld overlay from USJ, there will have to be English audio, considering the medium.

I know some Japanese, but not enough to not need help from the subtitles at any point. ^^;

As someone who watches an obscene amount of Asian dramas, not really understanding the issue of subtitles & still being able to watch what's happening on the screen.

The only time I'll have to hit the 10sec rewind is if the subtitles are too wordy/fast. Otherwise it's not an issue.

As for the anime films in theatres, it depends on the showtimes if I'm going to choose dub over sub. Some don't even offer a dub option (or sub).

It's not going to kill park guests to embrace non-English culture. If it's cheaper for Universal to just use a non-dub version, it's a non issue. A live show is different since they're actually speaking in a mic

Well tbf, it is a theme park attraction so the envrionment is a little different from watching a standard feature film or television. Its supposed to be "immersive". Text on screen might take some people out of the moment. Especially since this is also supposed to be a 3D film, so it might be extra distracting since its not in 3D.
