Work to the right of the IOA entrance still slowly moving forward . . .

IOAEntrance-005.jpg

Notice the dozen conduit stub-out groups. This would indicate 12 electrical devices. Might be the automated ticket machines discussed earlier. Although, I would think they would leave interior access to the back of them for service. The stubs are to close to allow this.

^ Wow, there used to be a huge stand of Bamboo in that location. The machinery used to remove it must have been SUBSTANTIAL. Even a top of the line skid steer couldn't have handled that. Any proof that they saved the trees that were to the right in that location?

Newly-Enhanced, Themed Restrooms Debut Near Mel’s Drive-In and Louie’s Restaurant

As part of Universal Orlando’s ongoing efforts to enhance our guests’ park experience, two major restrooms in Universal Studios Florida have been renovated.

Universal Creative partnered with Technical Services and Park Services to redesign the Mel’s Drive-In and New York restrooms. The teams worked together to ensure the restroom design was easy to maintain and immersed our guests into the unique theme of the surrounding area.

“When the restrooms were originally designed, they were geared towards functionality,” explains Ricardo Galbis, Director, Attractions Development. “We decided that it would be much better in a theme park environment to have a design which is specialized to the surrounding area.”

The restrooms in New York – across from Louie’s Italian Restaurant – evoke the feel of a 1930’s subway station. The Mel’s Drive-In restrooms feature a design based on a 1950’s diner with large murals and tiled walls with a blue or pink checkered pattern. Every detail was meticulously planned and both restrooms received new fixtures and convenient babychanging tables. The updated restrooms also support our Green is Universal initiatives
with new urinals that use only one pint of water and environmentally-friendly, efficient hand dryers.

“The Creative and Technical Services teams did an amazing job increasing efficiencies and improving the layout of these restrooms. This enabled us to introduce a new Family Restroom at Mel’s Drive-In,” notes Brian Colley, Director of Park Services. “The Park Services leadership team was instrumental in partnering with all parties involved to bring this to fruition, and our team is thrilled to support and maintain these impressive
restrooms. Our Team Members love them!”

From yesterday . . .

Not sure they painted this area. The rest looks great. They are still working on the path behind "Me Ship, The Olive".

It doesn't look like anything was repainted or if it was, it was a half-baked job.

Very shoddy work. It just came up from refurb and already looks like it needs to go right back down again. Who let them get away with that? As for the new paint itself, the boat looks nice. The rest of it... yikes. :stunned:

The refurb would of been more for the mechanics of the ride. Not so much cosmetic. A ride can only be painted so often otherwise it just becomes a major cost. Also being a water ride wear is worse, so it can't be done all that often, when the mechanics need more work and would take up a huge portion of the budget due to rust/corrosion.

Also to fix these thing the ride will need to be down for much longer and hence will be done in the winter. Most likely next winter as this winter has been busy with work done on everything.

I really loved those boats when IOA first opened...didnt really serve much of a purpose as a "ride" but alot of people including myself just love a relax chill type moment in the day and a boat ride cant be beat IMO. They were really wonderfully themed I thought.

The refurb focused on both things... badly.

There's usually only one refurb a year. That's why it needed to be done correctly.
