Oh my that seems like a trainwreck traffic wise. Unless the Rays keep their current, small fan base!!

In an ideal world you’d be able to get the Rays to kick in some money towards the Sunrail expansion. They’ve got to get it up and running 7 days a week though, the 5 day operation is killer for ridership.

Then I would assume a pedestrian overpass across the Beachline if the baseball stadium gets built next to Aquatica.

That would make the most logical sense, how many people would be visiting of match days?

Their current stadium has a capacity of about 42000, so essentially like adding another theme park load of guests on I-Drive if they hit capacity.

In an ideal world, all those existing Ray fans in Tampa could take a Brightline on a discounted price (or free with ticket on certain days) from Tampa to Orlando when they finally build the Brightline expansion. They currently do a similar program with the Miami Marlins... so it's doable.

Yup - as it currently exists the area can't handle it. Aquatica and sometimes SeaWorld will backup the existing roads with traffic on busy days.

Once Epic Universe opens up (and the area fully develops with additional hotels and the Catchlight project)... they probably won't be able to accommodate a stadium there without major infrastructure work.

So, i don't know anything about Baseball had to ask the guys on the podcast. but this is the kind of realistic scenario i can see them building. Aquatica have the infrastructure to be building a multi-storey and make money on game days, alternatively OCCC runs shuttles from their lot. but the bridge over the road from the station also works.


Update: I've added in their own plans instead, rule of thumb is we dont touch drainage ponds, but they have so let's go with it, they have the bridge leading to the station in their imagery

Doubt SEAS invests into a parking garage (even if they find it potentially lucrative). Likely, they'll just expand their lot to the south of the park versus building a garage (even though it's a better use of land).

But yes, it looks like if they ever intend on moving the Rays to Orlando, they'll have to find a spot close to the Brightline to accommodate all of those Tampa fans. There's also another spot across the Gaylord Palms that can fit a giant baseball stadium and is conveniently located close to the Wide World of Sports.

If only the county can get bus lanes and/or light rail along I-Drive. That would dramatically alleviate congestion in the area.

If they can get some form of improved transit through the I-Drive corridor (red line) and get the Brightline & Sunrail connection... Orlando will (hopefully) transform and utilize public transport far more than they do now.

Pair with additional SunRail extension through Davenport-Haines City and a Brightline Station in Lakeland... it should be easier for people to travel around in the area.

It won't eliminate the use of I4 entirely, but it'll help.

Yeah I know... the county/state just having discussions is a miracle on its own.

The fact that the CF Tourism Oversight District (Reedy Creek) has given money for the project seems to indicate the state/governor are for it.

Yeah, I believe it was for a feasibility study for the environment.

Shame we're probably 7+ years out from this. (I believe the study won't be ready until 1-2 years from now, and construction would take an additional 5-7 years).

It took Brightline 5 years to build the extension to Orlando, so the Tampa route might take a bit more. The I4 project is leaving space for Brightline, so it shouldn't delay things too much.

As of yesterday the north and southbound parts of the Kirkman Rd. extension are open. The ramp from Kirkman North to sand lake, and sand lake to South Kirkman are still closed though. Also the intersection of Carrier Dr. and Universal Blvd is still closed. I think once that's open at least some of the busses will start using that. But watch out going into parking coming from the north, it's the third light after the circle flyover, before that is the bus area, and the valet.

Still loads of construction barrels, especially between sand lake and carrier on Kirkman. Saw TWO people drive into the bus lanes heading south from there regardless. There's no good way out once you get in there (until you get to the circle), and it was obvious they were trying to get to Sand Lake.

Yeah, we drove it when we left CityWalk yesterday— really nice and convenient, but still a little confusing for which lane to be in for what when you get to the circle.
