What’s the two structure? Kind of looks like a wooden coaster.

That concept art angle perfectly matched up with the construction photo.

From a Comcast Town Hall meeting, Universal Beijing is now slated to open around the time of the next five years.

Comcast is spending a 'fantastic' amount of money to catch a Mouse

I still think that was a misquote. I'm willing to bet the "Five Year" timeline was that both Park 3 in Orlando and Beijing would open in those 5 years, not that Beijing is 5 years away.

This. It will not take five years to build USB.

The Park will be done in 5 years with the second one opening by the end of 2023. But yea no. This project is a political tool for Xi Jin Ping as the entire area of Thongzhou is dependent on the tourist and that resort opening to hit all their 5 year objectives.

2020 seems like a perfect date for their first park opening, partially to counter Japan's Nintendo expansion and Olympics in the same year. (At least that would be what I'd have in my mind.)

It seems Steve Burke's comments were taken out of context and the Chinese media are fearful the park won't out until 2023. However, based on meeting with Beijing Municipal Committee and the construction companies, they are guaranteed the park will open on its original scheduled date. Additional information reaffirmed Universal/State Owned Companies are committed to their plan for two theme parks and a water park.

New information has come out to include that this will be the first Universal Resort with a full fledged hospital on site. Medical tourism anyone..just kidding.
Tongzhou District Health Planning Commission official said that in order to provide better medical conditions for citizens and tourists, Tongzhou will build Universal Studios Hospital in the future, and plans to complete the preliminary procedures and planning and design this year.

A different article has speculated that Universal is suffering issues due to high Universal Creative leadership turnover in Beijing (35%) leading to a lack of resources with, the lack of ability to counter new attractions from the upcoming Six Flags and Shanghai Disney, and the upcoming fourth park as they think Universal would rather focus on increasing domestic tourism. However they are hopefully that due to the competitiveness of Disney and Universal, this will lead to an even greater park experience.

Also it appears you have fans in China @Alicia

Per Themeparx the Beijing Tongzhou District meeting revealed at 2021 opening date. As I've speculated formerly that seems to be the most likely, especially with first structural steel just starting on the attractions.

I'd still speculate a June opening.

It features 7 lands:

1. Transformers + a B&M Hulk-like clone for Transformers. With a small flat.
2. Jurassic World - A new E-ticket plus a pterodactyl indoor/outdoor coaster.
3. Kung Fu Panda Land - An E-ticket, several flats and diversions.
4. Hogsmeade (sans new coaster of course).
5. Despicable Me - A silly fun-land pier with a kiddie coaster, some flats and what looks to be an indoor attraction around its cityscape perimeter (TBD if it's just Minion Mayhem).
6. WaterWorld Stunt show Venue (TBD if it is Waterworld or is an overlay)

7. The park entrance area that isn't a single theme per say features...
-Fast and Furious SuperCharger
-Two indoor theatres (one suspected to be akin to the Hollywood Dreamworks Venue, the other a larger Broadway style venue perhaps for a unique Chinese non-IP show).

Probably the big three new things worth watching are the Jurassic World E-ticket, the Kung Fu Panda E-ticket and the Chinese based show venue.

Potential Runner up is that Pterodactyl coaster.

Everything else is gussied up versions of things from their current resorts.

I'm more excited for the second park than the first park.

Additionally the park did get pushed back but not for the reasoning most people are thinking. Its an entire thing for the area in which all those working at the theme parks and related to tourism will undergo intense training to maintain the quality of workers in the area.

(essentially trying to avoid Shanghai worker problems).

Additionally, reviews of the hiring process for USB have come out and they are being extremely selective in hiring.

Sorry for the double post.

Reading new information, construction has been accelerated again.

BEIJING, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The mayor of Beijing has said that the city will speed up sub-center construction in the eastern suburb of Tongzhou District with the addition of more offices and public facilities.

Beijing will start building the second phase of the administrative office zone in Tongzhou, designed to take over the administrative functions shifted out of the city center, Chen Jining said in his government report delivered at the annual session of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress on Monday.

So far, a number of key municipal organs have moved their offices from downtown Beijing to Tongzhou.

The report said Tongzhou aims to build a comprehensive transport hub.

The district will also add public service facilities including school, theater, library, museum, hospital and stadium, some of which will start construction this year. The construction of a Universal Studios theme park will also be accelerated.

"We are working on 235 major projects in 2019 with 136 currently under construction. A total of 75 billion yuan (11.1 billion U.S. dollars) has been invested," Tan Xuxiang, director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, was quoted as saying by Tuesday's China Daily.
