I believe the platform is permanent. The configuration makes no sense from a construction/install perspective. It is too big/wide. You can't access huge areas under it.

I think so too. I think if it were just temporary to install stuff they would be making pathways to areas instead of a huge platform. They also could have used much longer planks if it was just used for accessibility. These things look like they're only 5 feet long. They could have used 10 foot planks and had half the amount of posts to set in the water. Maybe the shorter planks worked out to a certain grid they wanted or a certain weight rating for stuff to sit on

What if, and this is crazy but hear me out, what if they're setting up a huge platform so at night they can hold up sticks with people stationed in multiple spots along viewing areas so they can see where the best spots are to install junk? Easier to lay out a flat surface than to keep rowing around all night in a dingy. Can you see it now. What about now? Any obstructions here?

Wouldn’t they be able to do this on a computer?

It could be that some platforms are temporary and some are permanent.

Either way, a lot of effort is going into this.

Computer!? What do you think this is Disney World? Let them spend seven years pre-visualizing a show. We're gonna walk around like the Verizon guy saying "Can you see me now?"

I have no idea what's going on honestly.

Just to be clear, are some of you saying that you think this is permanent? The clearly temporary giant floor built out of scaffolding on top of the lagoon? If they wanted a big floor the size of the lagoon I think they'd just pour bags of cement in and turn it into the ground.

When discussing whether this structure is permanent or temporary, I think it’s important to remember that we have no clue whatsoever as to what this show will entail. I think a lot of us are envisioning a World of Color-type large platform (myself included), and that may be the case, but we just don’t know. If this is in fact scaffolding to build something, then I truly can’t imagine what they’re going to do.

Even more than Park 3- which is years away- this thing is the most exciting project on my plate for UOR right now by a mile.

I guess the water level will be raised a couple feet and it'll be submerged.

So you think they add World of Color fountains on top of this grid, then raise the water level so it looks like this:

That's what I'm imagining. But I'm so thrown for a loop I don't know. Most of the larger installations like WoC used a custom raising/lowering platform.

For reference here's what world of color looks like with the water level lowered:

Much easier to service than if the equipment was sitting right on the floor of the lagoon.

That looks more appropriate, given that it is grated for water to pass through it. The stuff they got in the lagoon now looks more like scaffolding pieces to me.

Ladies and gentlemen... despite all of the amazing advances Universal has made over the past decade, they're still Universal. If they can save money by using building scaffolding as an underwater platform instead of a weighted, custom-made grated stage, they will do it.

A world of color style show is just a guess , and Disney is also notorious for going overboard on budgets. So that's a stretch right now.

Yep. They'll raise the water level and dye it to hide the duct tape and zip ties.
