Hollywood studios, writers near agreement to end strike, hope to finalize deal Thursday, sources say

While optimistic, the people noted, however, that if a deal is not reached the strike could last through the end of the year.

Tomorrow will be interesting…

I think the fact that the WGA and AMPTP issued a joint -- if also comically brief -- statement is a positive sign.

Both sides know how dire it is to get a deal done so hopefully this doesn’t fall apart (assuming the writers are getting a fair deal).

In the short term this would bring talk shows and late night back and gets new seasons of shows and movie’s writing. Next to focus on is AMPTP and SAG getting in a room and reaching a fair deal to actually get shows and movies back in front of cameras.

Will bet a lot of money that the strike won't last till next year if a solution is not reached today.

Kind of my feeling on this. Hope it doesn’t turn out this way…

WGA & Studio CEOs End Second Day Of Talks; “Progress” Made But Deal Not Done – Update

The scribes have been on strike for 143 days, so far
deadline.com deadline.com

Stay cautious, only trust official statements, etc etc, but this quote made me chuckle:
Today began with some recriminations about a CNBC missive late last night that asserted a deal was coming today or “without deal tomorrow strike likely continues through year end,” as cable host David Faber tweeted. Reminiscent of past sharp salvos against the guild and its members from the C-Suites, the blast radius from the report this morning saw Iger being accused of pushing the story – an accusation the Mouse House boss denied.

Someone wanted Deadline to know that little piece of bull was allegedly from Iger specifically.

As long as they are able to sit in the same room together without just walking out I will take that as progress. Little by little we will get there, we just need forward progress.

The characterization of the talks in this piece strikes me as quite positive, as it implies there's actual, line-by-line negotiating happening. Which I'm not sure has been the case up to this point.

After Marathon Session, Writers Guild Negotiations Conclude Friday Without Deal

For the third consecutive day this week, union negotiators and studio CEOs met across the bargaining table without finalizing a deal, but are expected to continue to meet on Saturday.

Looks like negotiations are continuing today. Hoping a fair deal is put forth.

They’ve been at the table all week so imagine they have a general deal in place and are just hammering a few things out?

Essentially, yes. What I’ve heard is they are (finally) going line by line thru each issue, rather than the studios saying “here’s what we’re offering you; take it or leave it.”

And the AMPTP could’ve given that deal months ago, that’s the worst part.

They thought they were going to break labor. Get rid of two problems at once.

Very true, and very sad.
They’ve broken us (IATSE) down a lot. I know quite a few people who are 5 figures into debt now during this. But I hope that doesn’t cause any concessions.

I only hope that this wasn’t a one-two punch tactic for when IATSE’s contract expires next summer, hoping to avoid a potential strike from us considering we’ve already been out of work most of this year.

But I wouldn’t put it past the studios to do that… they already cut production way down at the start of the year hoping IATSE and WGA would be hurting for money come May and be pleading with leadership to resolve the problem, but the issues at hand are greater than any momentary fiscal stress.

“Final” is such a pompous threat. Is there just going to be no scripted content anymore? GTFOH with that type of talk.
