They kind of already did this at the Hollywood announcement. Said that WWoHP would be greatly expanded in Orlando.

They haven't given any more because they don't want people putting off vacations.

Ah, I didn't realise they had even hinted at it. And I can understand them not wanting folk to put off vacations.

What's an odd configuration?

My goodness, that granite looks like the real deal. Looks like a northern post office or court house. Cool to see one of the guys with the spray unit... odd configuration to my eyes. Other observations but I will remain silent lest someone kick me in my happy place.

I can see where that would work. Hmmm.

It means I have never used a professional power paint sprayer before and I don't have a clue what that canister is on the gun. Sorry that I was vague in that.

Looked like what's called an HVLP unit. It's kind of like a typical cup gun you would use to paint a car, but instead of a high air pressure, it uses more CFM and is able to atomize the paint without creating much overspray as well as presicely controlling your spray pattern. You can spray in lines as thin as a pencil is you want to with it, and it has around a 83% transfer efficiency so almost everything you spray hits your target, where with a conventional cup gun that rati is reversed and only 17% hits what you're spraying. The canister is a gravity feed cup, normally you would have two lines going to the gun. One air line, one fluid line. If you have smaller quantities you can use a gravity feed cup that will eliminate the need for the second line, making it lighter and increasing your control. For a detail oriented paint job that requires a ton of control this makes the most sense.

**edit for simplicity, think of a really big airbrush**

Yep right on Bama, HVLP. Very commonly used in the scenic paint world...Turn the air and paint way down, and you can spray "spots" of color, and when you mix multiple colors it creates a very convincing stone/granite finish. Almost like fleckstone spray cans, only better. As far as mold technique goes, a common method is to hand sling mud onto the surface then spray a wash of color over top, then when the paint dries, wash the mud off the wall and you have that spotty mold look. You see it alot on HP phase 1.

^ It is the moire silk pattern mold seen on the real London embankment. It would require a completely different technique than the slung mud effect.

I think he was saying that the slung mud technique is a common technique, although not necessarily the one being used here. Although with a gravity feed paint supply as opposed to what is in essence a siphon it will allow them to turn the air down even further for maximum control no matter which specific technique they're using. Without one of us standing there with him there's not many reliable ways to know the exact technique, as there are literally thousands of ways to create a faux finish. All that being said, I'm just happy that a picture finally popped up that I could provide some reliable expertise on.

I don't think it will be any more than facades. There is something connected to the Gringotts complex, but I assume it's the gift shop for the ride.

Exactly, and now a whole bunch of people here know something they didn't want to know but just wait until they want to get creative with a paint job. We now know to run to Home Depot to rent an HVLP. (it would be cool if we knew how to use it, but hey, ya can't have everything!)

Guess I could respond like a smart*** too, but I won't. Don't know why you feel the need to be that way, but if it makes you feel special, keep it up.

It's a fairly easy piece of equipment to use, and someone who is reasonably artistic could get some pretty cool results. Doubt you'd be able to rent one from Home Depot, and if you could it wouldn't be worth a crap. Renting spray equipment is never a good idea because people don't care to, or don't know how to take care of them. All that being said, it makes perfect sense for this to be what is used on any scenery for all the reasons listed before, and honestly it reveals a lot about how much of the themeing, from a paint perspective, was achieved resort wide.

Phew, thanks. I was only joking that some of us might end up being goofballs trying to use the equipment like the pros... That is all.

Nah, most would get frustrated pretty quick and go back to the brush and roller. They're very slow to paint with. No biggie though, and no hard feelings whatsoever.
