The story of Peter Pan is in public domain meaning anyone can do their version of it as long as it doesn't infringe on Disney's version in some way. The same goes for Alice in Wonderland and just about any other story used by Disney to make a movie. They're all public domain and can be reinterpreted by anyone. The Wizard of Oz as well which is why Universal owns Wicked while the Wizard of Oz film is owned by Warner Brothers (after they purchased the MGM library).

So Universal could have a ride of it in their parks?

Yes, the original story and characters are outside of copyright. As long as they steer clear of anything that's different in copyrighted variants.

Another example I have for you is Frankenstein... the character and story is public domain but that green guy with a flat top, scar on his face, and bolts in his neck is protect-able.

Just like Wizard of Oz can be done as long as Dorothy isn't in a blue and white gingham dress and the characters don't look exactly like the movie.

Also, look at last year when Universal released Snow White & the Huntsman. Same story as the Disney movie, different take on it.

Snow White is a great example, notice no one else uses the same dwarf names as Disney.

This is a crazy idea, so bare with me. Couldn't Universal essentially take some of those rebooted franchises like a Pan or a Snow White and actually build a land around that? Can you imagine how pissed Disney would be? I'm not saying it's necessarily a good idea or that it will ever happen, I'm just throwing the idea out there.

They definitely could, but I don't know that seems a little like dirty pool.

Neverland? Fairytales? LOTR? Sounds like some ideas for a 3rd gate? Or possibilities in Kid Zone? I mean Fairytales could be the perfect route. It does seem a bit mad but if it's not the exact owned stories, settings or characters it could work.

Fairytales could work for sure, I'm just saying I would stay away from any that are represented at Disney. I think it would be viewed as a cheap shot and increase confusion and make them look like they are trying to imitate. Any advertising they would have would need to be near flawless otherwise you are going to have something like "Hey family, come check out new Fantasy World at Universal Studios and experience Snow White and the mob of Gimli's". There are definitely people that would not be able to distinguish between Disney and Uni.

Universal is definitely strong enough to hold their own ground.

You make some very good points. What are some solid IP's you think could come to Universal within the coming years? I definitely can see LOTR and Godzilla(If it's successful like I hope). And besides FF, I'm trying to think of some real legit IP's. I read an article about how Warner Bros. is developing a "King Arthur" trilogy that is trying to capture the magic of the Harry Potter trilogy. They are shooting for a 5 or more picture deal if it makes good profit. Am I allowed to post the link?

It's from Screenrant.com. Which is a major movie/TV news website. I'm just making sure because I really don't want to get banned from these amazing forums.

Hate to revive the Video Game theme but saw this about USJ and thought it was interesting. Monster Hunter themed attractions, shops, and food/drink areas.

Nick would be perfect. You already have spongebob in that area. Just had TMNT and Kung fu panda and it could be pretty awesome.

I still think a Spongebob area replacing Curious George and taking up the land where the Hard Rock Cafe used to be would be amazing (I came up with another lame visual aid for this idea a while back, if anyone actually wants to see it lol) I mean, after all, it's really the only animated show currently on Nickelodeon that has had continuous success for over a decade.

One would assume that the plans WERE to add more Spongebob when they created the Spongebob Store, always has seemed "unfinished" to me, doesn't flow with the rest of the area as it stands now IMO...

Kid Zone needs a new family dark ride more than anything. Whether that would be SpongeBob or another IP, I don't know. In a perfect world Scooby Doo and TMNT would be my choices but SpongeBob is the most realistic. I also really love the idea of bringing a classic Nick land to the area.
