I am all about rides, but if replacing Twister is for another screen based attraction and replacing Disaster is also for a screen based attraction, count me out. Too much 3-D and screens in the park as it is. Give me more physical experiences with sets and animatronics. There needs to be a balance, and lately everything has been very screen heavy.

As for the Star Trek attraction...I personally want to see more than a simulator or 4-D theater. It deserves more.

Kidzone...while I love Fievel, the rest can rot. I hope they get a great property and get to this section of the park in the next few years. It's so outdated.

Some of the most lauded "Immersive" attractions rely heavily on screens - see Horizons and World of Motion. Entire sections of those rides were nothing but screens. A modern comparison is Spiderman, where it uses screens but also uses physical set pieces extensively. Spiderman without the screens is essentially what Dinosaur at AK looks like, so the screens do serve a purpose.

It's the balance between having the screens to achieve a goal, and making the goal itself being "watching stuff on a screen." That's where the Ratatouille ride fails, miserably.

A major reason I'm not a fan of Transformers is that it relies too much on screens without very many physical sets and effects. Spiderman has the fireball and towering buildings that scroll past. Transformers has the visible top of the screen and another screen.. and another screen. Considering they're the exact same ride system, it's telling in the creative choices made by the teams. Why on earth did there need to be an elevator in the ride..? Pretty sure for the price of that elevator there could have been a fireball.

Screens are just repetitive especially when there are many in one giant chunk of the park, another simulator adds nothing we haven't seen before. It'll become stale if they don't release something fully practical or innovative in between all the screens

It could be far FAR worse though. See SeaWorld's Antarctica. That was the worst use of a screen in a ride that i've seen in a long time.

Go look at the Google map of spiderman and transformers. And then also remember it was developed for Hollywood where the space is tight. Spiderman is the superior ride by far. Its funny that the simulated drop on that feels way more real considering the fact that on transformers you are actually going down. Granted the elevator is for practual purposes and not as a free fall device.

On the topic of Twister, I have a soft spot for it since I love the practical. But didn't someone mention that they would potentially be using the avatar ride system and not the soaring ride system. And either way would it be possible to fit two theatres in Twister?

And if universal wants a cool pitch for a godzilla ride and ride system they can contact me. Lol.

Agreed, Horizons and World of Motion were two of the most perfect dark rides because of the combinations of screens and physical props, but an additional part may have been the omission of 3-d glasses while still creating a strong feeling of immersion.

A Soarin type ride in Twister could be really cool, and they could do some really cool things with it. I'm not sure if I would want it to be in a 3-D or not.

I would love base jumping with Jimmy Fallon hosted by Amy poehler and Tina fey. Have a nice 30 rock facade. Go into the lobby where musion fey and poehler greet u as and then we board an elevator to the roof where we then walk up stairs to the ride. And throw in an Alec Baldwin cameo while you are at it.

Yeah but didn't World of Motion have a record number of animatronic robots or something like that? It was a little before my time so Im not 100% sure, just thought I had seen that someplace.

Yep. World of motion had many animatronics. On my first visits to Epcot it was my favorite ride. Spaceship Earth was number two.

For its lack of physical sets, Transformers makes up the difference for me by having the best simulation I've experienced on a ride. Sitting front row on both driving scenes and the flight scene is pretty thrilling, and I think the back-to-back-to-back sequence of IMAX screens in the middle of the ride creates a relentless and immense sense of scale.

I love Transformers, though it's a different ride than Spidey (less dark ride, more simulator) and is going to cater to different tastes. It's not perfect but I always have a great time on it.

I personally haven't felt wind during Transformers' freefall like Spidey's. Spidey's motion also feels a bit more intense. I'd like for Transformers' to be amped up a bit more but there may be reasons preventing that.

For those complaining based a Fallon ride, at least we are getting new stuff compared to back in the Vivendi/GE pre potter days.

1. I have heard Tina Fey is involved with the Fallon/30 Rock project.
2. Spongebob will have a larger presence at USF.
3. A Star Trek multi-sensory live show could be cool.

And again, I mean Transformers in USF is a win win, because it replaced a building that was abandoned. They just copied what they did in USH for here. I dont know why people are so upset with the amount of screens. I understand it is nice having physical things, but I mean the rides these days are becoming more technologically advanced and need that kind of technology to convey it. I think Kong will be a good test to this, as it will have outside space/sets and indoor sets/screens. For twister replacement, honestly I hope they go the route of a soarin type attraction. I always enjoyed those kind of rides, and would be a massive improvement technologically from Twister.

I'm not sure the key to Horizons being immersive was that it had sections with screens. I think it was the fact that they could do scenes like this without 3-D glasses.

So does anyone know if changing the facade to resemble 30 Rock actually a part of this Twister replacement project?

To my knowledge right this very minute, I don't believe anyone knows. If they do, I hope they speak up about it. We are halfway past it's projected shut down date, as was told to me by a cool kitty-cat in UC.

It's about time spongebob got an actual presence at the parks. I mean he's on all the plastic merch and he hasn't had an attraction, show or anything in that nature

I've always heard that the façade will become 30 Rock. That's something that's always been told to me no matter what else was said about the project.

But like you said, we've shot past the date this was supposed to start. So honestly I have no idea what's happening.

I kind of like being in the dark...but I also hate it..I wish we knew what we know about Kong, so at least we would have some idea of what's coming...I imagine someone will spill the beans soon though
