Well this is certainly a promising rumor, SW truly needs a shot in the arm to help out with attendance and something like a Giga could do it. I could honestly care less if it's themed or not, after all the last themed attraction they put in was Antartica and that did jack diddly in helping the parks attendance. A big coaster and one that's also exclusive to the nearby area is going to grab attention, though for the love of pete they better tease and market this thing and not pull the Busch Gardens Williamsburg method of "Let's not talk about it till a week before the park opens".

Well semi-official.

They announced it at a partners meeting.

The coaster will be the Tallest, Fastest, Longest, and "Fiercest" in Orlando according to their announcement.

EDIT: OK now it's official.

How much does a large coaster like this cost? Just looking for a range.

Apparently Diamondback at Kings Island was $22m. (http://rcdb.com/4253.htm)

Almost positive this will be a B&M Hyper, hopefully with the same train model as Diamondback.

Regarding theme, with the speed and the hills, I'm thinking this will based on the fastest marine mammal (coming up for air and diving back down), which is the common dolphin. In the same light as Manta and Antarctica, this would give them a reason to build a great new dolphin exhibit. Dolphins already draw huge crowds, and it would allow them to demolish the current Dolphin Theater, which currently sits in the middle of the ride section of the park.

Guess #2 would be sailfish-themed. They're colorful, they're the fastest fish in the ocean at 70 MPH (same speed as the coaster), and apparently they feed off of the ocean surface, so they also surface and dive back down.

based on verbiage - It's Shark-themed.

Now if we could only persuade Universal to announce their new projects so far in advance of opening. We could have more entertaining discussions. LOL

Ah, didn't know about the location. That makes sense too.

Also Googled fastest shark and found this video on the Mako Shark. The description of how it accelerates (around the 1:00 mark) reminded me of how some designers would talk about coasters.

That would be a cool name. I can envision people saying, "Let's ride Mako now".

There's nothing like an official announcement to get everyone excited. Great job, SeaWorld. :cough: Universal :cough:

Now if only some permits would surface. Still coming up with nothing on the Comptroller and SFWMD sites, but I'm not the best at pulling permits.

I'm not sure the coaster design/layout is even finalized yet.

That is what I figured as well, especially since SW said that by the end of next month they will have more info, so probably B&M only just started drafting plans.

PS: Does anyone happen to know how long it takes (on average) for the factory to build all the track pieces and supports?

Teebin, is the Universal coaster for next year still happening? Definitely looking forward to next year, new coasters in SWO and BGT and Kong in IOA and maybe a coaster in US.
