Yes, I'm booked for 00:01 on 17th December. Nerdy-ness to it's max for me.

wow sold out pretty fast. Not really surprised.

out of all the theater's near me, the most expensive theater sold out first. $28 a ticket.

People are making this an event, which makes sense, but it's kind of silly when you can purchase tickets for $8-$11 at most theaters.

Oh well. Bring it on! Trailer looked awesome.

I'm convinced this is going to take Avatar's throne. The amount of hype is insane.

no doubt that this will be one of the top grossing movies of all time, possible top 3. Do I think it will do long term Avatar numbers? Not so sure. Avatar was sold and billed as the first "next gen" 3D movie, and the crowds came flocking for that reason. Now with everyone and their mom having a 3D post conversion, the novelty has warn off.

Personally, I am going to be seeing Star Wars in 2D, mainly because it wasn't shot with 3D in mind like Avatar was. Also, because I'd rather save the extra $5 on that small popcorn.

If I want to see 3D I'll go to UOR..ha ha.

3D argument aside.. It is being released in Dec and doesn't have very much competition for a bit.

That's true, but think about how BIG Frozen was. And even that movie didn't come close to Avatar.

I think that between both Frozen and Avatar, Star Wars has the biggest draw and that's what can push it to the top. I can think of a number of people who dislike Avatar...I can think of people who refuse to pay for animated kiddie movies. I can't think of anybody who doesn't like Star Wars, or even at least have a passing interest in it. Are there some people indifferent to it? Probably...but they can be swayed by the way they're hyping the heck out of this thing (ticket websites crashing? Great publicity!). I don't wanna say for sure because Avatar did get a lot of money out of 3-D sales, but I think that this is a serious contender for biggest movie of all time.

Keep in mind Star Wars sold eight times on Fandango to what The Hunger Games (the previous record holder for the site) did for presales. 8 times.

It's going to have huge opening weekend numbers.

I don't think it comes close to toppling Avatar though. I think it makes near 2 billion, but not much more than that.

How is Star Wars perceived overseas and didn't Avatar do huge outside the USA? If SW is pretty popular in Asia I can see it getting close to Avatar

Hard to say, China is the wildcard here since the market has increased drastically since 2005.
