Exactly. With how Disney advertises DHS as the Star Wars park you would think the land is already open. I've even read stories from people who had to explain it to others.

At the end of the day, these ads are local to the Orlando and surrounding areas. The Orlando area, due to its economic reliance on the tourism industry, tends to be very in tune with goings on at all the parks. Universal is not a "locals" heavy park, at least not this time of year. HHN and Marde Gras are the locals events. This idea that the ads are confusing the local population is blowing a trivial matter way out of hand. Out of town guests who are traveling to Orlando this summer (the vast majority of guests right now) are not seeing these ads and only know what's being said on the website and online communities, which all say the ride is not yet open, or they might catch softs.

I'm 200 miles south and we have all the advertising in our Publix for almost 3 weeks now.

It says New Ride in this one

New ride in this also

And colossal ride here.

The other side of here has hulk and says summer of 2016.

I'm gonna throw my ambiguous hat into the pool that says "silence is consent."

For real. For so long we've seen "Coming soon", "Summer of 2016", etc...but now all of a sudden there's nothing? Maybe "open" is subjective in their mind.

Working in a marketing world, I've seen that my boss won't put out material advertising something if that something isn't ready to be advertised for. Simple as that.

@testtrack321 has a point. Why release a marketing campaign with the slogan "Coming soon" when "soon" is like in two days? They would then have to recall all marketing promos and create new ones. Asinine, if you ask me.

This sucker will be officially open by weekend's end.

So tourists don't drive around Orlando? They don't listen to the radio in the car or in the morning while getting ready? I can just see it, the couple leaving the airport driving to their hotel and seeing a billboard. "Oh look honey, Kong at Universal, we have to ride that" get there at opening ride spiderman and then water rides and then, what, technical rehearsal and isn't open?

It will happen. It will make people upset, but it is not the end of the world. But to sit here and say it won't trick anyone or confuse anyone is silly.

Btw, while I agreed with the fact that some people will get upset, I do not agree with his idiot post. Better and nicer ways to make your point.

It's the 2nd busiest in the world. I worked there for a short period of time a long time ago, but Wal-Mart management sucks and I just couldn't take it there. It was one of the most stressful jobs because of how busy it was.

Concerning the "open/not open" thing. We are in fact in a gray area. It was supposed to open on the 24th. All the marketing was prepped to roll out at that time. Because of Pulse, the grand opening has been delayed, but all the marketing is already out there. So they are just going to let it ride until tomorrow. Last time something like this happened it was for "Twister".

If it was related to pulse they'd be operating normally - they're not. They're using it as an excuse since the ride wasn't ready and it's really sickening.

That's the cynical view. Or you could say that they had little choice to delay the celebration, so they have taken the opportunity to continuing to iron out the kinks. And since the ads rolled out, it has been open everyday except the day the media event was to happen and they did media all day. So if you showed up because of the ads, you most likely had an opportunity to ride.

Is it a "clean" opening"? No, not really. This Summer has pretty much been a disaster for PR and Marketing across the board. Only SeaWorld nailed it. Universal did OK. And Disney's Summer Awakens promo has been an epic FAIL!

Interesting year in the biz.

While Disney certainly hasn't done themselves many favors, I wouldn't call their summer a "Fail". Yes, missing the target date for RoL sucks, but i'd rather see the show actually work as intended. The temporary show has gotten much less then stellar reviews, but at least they did something.

Where Disney begins to gain ground is in the things they've actually opened. Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire, Star Wars Fireworks, Soarin Around The World and Frozen Ever After.

MRFF has received very positive reviews for a castle show, The Star Wars Fireworks are subjective if you like the show or not, of course Disney needs to be slapped a little for it being a hub-centric show in that park. Soarin Around the World is being received extremely well by the general public (Len Testa tweeted survey results about it yesterday) and Frozen Ever After... is here. It seems the insane crowds are gone for the ride and it's only maxing at 2 hours now and breaking down less (which is great to hear). Of course it's not worth 1.5-2 hours, but those that ride it seem to like it for the most part.

I'm not trying to make excuses for Disney, I just think people look at the negatives from a fan perspective, but don't see the positives from a general public perspective.

Didn't this happen for HRRR? I seem to recall radio ads for the ride and then the local morning show going up there to broadcast from the park, they were saying stuff like: here is where we planned to talk to guest that have ridden the rollercoaster except it is not open today....

Ohh I really doubt that. I don't trust big business at all. Pretty sure Disney is the Illuminati. But, if they were using the shooting as an excuse they would have made a public announcement.
Technically the ride is open, it has reduced hours. But, is that any different than Frozen breaking down for hours every day? Sure, it's technically open, but it has limited hours.
