Disneyland holds a lot of cards in Anaheim, too. Almost all of them. Yet they are still having to fight with local businesses tooth and nail over their new parking structure and security entrance and the City is siding with the businesses. The total guests rooms those businesses hold is less than 700.

True.

But Anaheim is also a completely different world from Los Angeles. Anaheim is far more similar to Orlando.

Since everyone is trying to make anime live action films and Universal already having theme park rights to the most popular ones already for Japan, do you expect them to snatch them for the states before Disney?

To me, I have to think of what is the perfomance numbers that Comcast/NBCU are seeing from Universal Cool and if so, it would be wise to test interest with an event similar to that.

I think the Anime industry has potential for film/theme park, but with how well the Gaming industry is tapping it's foot into it, I'm hesitant to say that they'll be doing anything Anime-oriented (even if that means the DWA iteration of Voltron not making it) for the time being.

From USJ,
Held at Universal Studios Japan® since 2015, Universal Cool Japan is an event that brings together cool, internationally-loved entertainment brands from Japan, and delivers the charms of Japan both within the country and globally.
This event dramatically raises Universal Studios Japan®'s guest attraction rate during the theme park off-peak season, to the point where the park's off-peak season is practically a thing of the past. Universal Cool Japan delivers real-life reproductions of the worlds of top entertainment brands from a wide range of genres, including movies, manga, anime, games, music, and fashion, treating each and every guest to an impossible, exciting experience.

Two completely different audiences though. Anime is a niche market in the USA.

I thought that as well until I found out how many people grew up with Sailor Moon/Dragonball Z/Pokémon and with Disney XD and Cartoon Network also now showing anime its increasing once again. Horror is niche market as well yet doesn't stop Universal from doing HHN.

The sheer popularity of the Mitsukoshi in the Japan pavilion and it's ability to move merch should convince anyone that building a ride and having a store at the exit is a good idea.

And if you still harbor doubts.. the Mitsukoshi was designed to be the store at the end of a ride/show about Japan.

The ride never got built and the store remained.. and became so popular it has expanded multiple times.

What if Universal got Studio Ghibli from right under Disney's nose?

They already have certain merchandising and distribution rights for Ghibli's latest films in the US thanks to Gkids having theatre so wouldn't be surprised. Studio Ghibli and Disney don't have that great of a relationship anymore compared to the past. It would be the greatest win for Universal as well if they actually acquired Studio Ghibli to add to their library of 148 animes they currently own and are producing and to have a traditional animation studio to add to the mix. Then imagine them opening the bathhouse from Spirited Away as an actual resort for the new park and then seeing Totoro and all the fluffy things in Ghibli. I would die.

It screams Cat bus ride, flying with Kiki and a ponyo dark ride.

That looks less like a Univeral show and more like a Disney presentation.

Only recently has Comcast owned a majority stake at USJ though and they still only own 51%, meaning if the other owner comes and says "we want to add this really cool thing and we're going to pay virtually half the budget" Comcast is much more likely to green-light the project as it's less money out of their pocket.

They were doing stuff like this before Comcast took over though. I'm just saying this gives hope for the third park for larger scale shows.

That sort of leads to my point though.

Just like how TDLR is looked at as the highest quality Disney Resort, it is so because there's an outside company running it, as was the case before Comcast took over USJ.

My point is, while this is a great show, I need to see something from them stateside before I go getting my hopes up with Uni's Entertainment department (outside of special events).
